Ses P0740

Have a friend with a 1997 Ram 1500 with the 360 V8. His SES light came on and is giving code P0740. Torque Converter Clutch Circuit Malfunction. Has anyone seen this problem before? Will it be expensive? Are there any simple/inexpensive things to try before he brings it into the shop for depressing news?:banghead:
