Hi there.
I am thinking about getting a 87' Prelude, but I've been looking around and it seems that most people only want, or have 88'+ preludes, is there something wrong with the earlier models? No body kits or something?
Thanks for anyones input. :)

the aftermarket for ludes older than 92 is pretty limited.

Its because the 88-91 have a different engine, the bodies look very alike the 85-87. the 88-91 have twin cams and one of the models is a 2.1 although they all say 2.0si on the back emblem.

I do believe '85-87 has a carb'd engine that is a pain in the ass to get any power from. Unless you are looking for a daily beater, or know a lot about tuning old hondas, I wouldn't recommend it for the novice.

can you get any power or do anything to a 89 carb, someone told me you can tune the carb which dramatically improves performance is that correct

heck, if its cheap go for it man. U could later build it up to give any car competition. 87 most likely to have a dual carb and 12 valve. I have an 85. found out it only has 100 hp but weighs ~2000 lbs. U could put high performance parts in it that are cheap too. However carbs are difficult to maintain. But u can also engine swap so it's really no big deal. My lude has 219k in it and it runs fine with no problems. I also think it doesn't have an ECU ( correct me if im wrong ). But new kits and new parts are hard to put on older models.

Before you 'swap carbs', make sure it has one. My '87 Prelude is the SI, it is fuel injected. They made both that year.

85-87 preludes came with twin carbs or Fuel injected I have a 86 si (fuel injected ) I really enjoy driving my car as for as body kits there was the interlude kit from kamari made back then if you can find one in someones' old stock as for performance mods , I have done intake ,header ,exhaust, cam, bigger brakes, drilled rotors, and in the process of putting a b16a3 motor in , but had finish with my 97 prelude gauge cluster swap first , if the body is in good shape and no rust and the price is right get it :iceslolan

If you have the carb model I know you can get upgraded webber carbs and a few kits and other things, theres not a whole lot. I know I;ve seen some with b16s in them that are pretty quick. as for the 88-91 they have several upgrades for them turbo being one that alot of people do. Although most hevely upgraded ones are the 92 and up models they have more mods than all.
