900 dollar bike strikes back!

well the GSX250 gave me back what i paid for it today, had the front brake piston sieze shut on me on the way to a bike shop.

didnt notice it at first, thought i just lost a bugger load of power, wondered why i couldnt get over 60km/h then realised... OH SHIT theres smoke pouring out of the caliper... not fun

130 dollar to get the shop to do it for piece of mind since ive never resealed the piston and given it a bit of a service. thats mostly labour cost though.

but bloody hell, how hot do discs have to get to turn BLUE... theres little to no warping, alot of glazing and a few scratches but its salvagable...

but damn... BLUE

well that was an experience today... anyone have anything similar happen lately?

I don't know why but many of Suzukis calipers were known for that...my own GS750 had a similar problem that was intermittant. In reading up on it I found it was a very common problem.

I used to carry an 8mm wrench with me for in case it happened, then I'd stop, crack the bleeder screw open, the caliper would relax and let go, and then it wouldn't happen again for a while. I kinda suspected the hose was the problem, not the caliper. Relieving hydraulic pressure won't do anything if the caliper is siezing. A bad hose will trap hydro pressure in the caliper and not allow it to release.

If it happens again, suspect the hose. I never found out for sure on mine, got another bike and sold that one before finding the cause...

PS if you think your rotor is blue, you should see your clutch plates now:eek:
