There's not much between them but Hobby Search seemed to get things done quicker IMO.

HLJ for me

i'm in canada.

I ordered from Hobby Search, and HLJ about 2 days apart, both with SAL Shipping.
HLJ came about 3 weeks earlier than Hobby Search, no idea why, shipping dates were around 2 days apart also.

on a side note, Rainbow Ten's Surface shipping beats both HLJ and Hobby Search's SAL shipping.

from the time i order, to the time i receive the product. Rainbow Ten wins (surface).. dunno why.. maybe they got a new super boat or something

While I haven't ordered from Hobby Search, Hobbylink Japan's US shipments are very fast, since they use UPS instead of the postal service. You can also track the shipment easily, that shows me how fast UPS delivers once it's on it's way from Japan, via Alaska, then to the US hub, and on to your local hub. Very speedy. And my UPS shipments are usually here before 9am...nice living 2 miles from an Atlanta hub.

Haven't used HLJ, but when I used Hobby Search, the process time for an in-stock item was only a day.

When SAL is used, there isn't any fare comparison between HLJ and HS, because SAL is 2nd Class Air, and it depends on how much a cargo is filled with 1st class air and express mail. In my experience, the quickest SAL took 4 days, the same as EMS. (shipped on Monday in Japan, and received on Friday in the U.S.) And the slowest SAL took two weeks.

I like Hobby Search's data base, which is linked to their stock status. When I ordered Fujimi's Supra, their database immediately updated, and showed it as sold out. (Yes, it was me, who got the last Hi Mecha Supra. :) )
My advice of using a mail order service, regardless of its location, is not to expect back order item to arrive soon, and just order in-stock items.

Hobby Search...i'm finding them better at present. They are faster to answer your orders and i'm getting my stuff alot quicker then from HLJ.

Depends on what they have as to where i order also

hobby search, most definately. i've ordered from hobby search and hlj on the same day, three different days to test this out. i always get sal with hobby search, yet the orders from hobby search get here quicker. hlj sends ups but i normally receive the package 3 days after the order from hobby search arrives. :D

Once my order was shipped Tuesday and I receieved it Thursday same week...I live in Philadelphia, by the way. I've had very good shipping service from HLJ, always here within three-five business days. It's just getting everything in stock that can be a pain.

I'm placing an order with Hobby Search today, hearing all the good recommendations on it. Gonna use SAL, since I'm just ordering a few kits that I won't build for a while anyway.

a week already, and still have not received any stuff from hlj. _uck. I used SAL, and I dont think the distance from Japan to Hong Kong is longer than from that of Japan to US.
