I have the greddy kit as well, do you have the upgrade kit or the orignal (is your ecu the e-manage blue or the e-manage ultimate) Anyways, in order for the stock ecu to controll the fuel delivery when the car is not in boost is for the stock o2 sensor to be inplace so I wouldnt suggest replaceing it with a widband sensor because there is a difference. If you look under the car there are two sensors in the exhaust system, one near the flange of the header and the other in the cat. When you install the kit there will be an o2 housing pipe where the stock o2 sensor goes. What I did with mine is I bought a cat replacement pipe wich is basically a pipe with no cat in it and I had a muffler shop weld in a bung for my wideband sensor right before my cat sensor. Since my midpipe is three inches in diameter the general rule for placement for the sensor is to multiply the diameter of the exhaust pipe by ten and whatever you get is where you place the sensor. I belive that the stock diameter is 2.5 which is twenty five inches away from the motor, mine is thirty inches away. Either way your going to have to place the o2 sensor by the cat sensor and with the cat in the way it is kinda hard. Now you can drill in the very front of the cat ( the end closest to the engine) and place the bung there but by doing that you run the risk of damaging the cat. And, by adding the turbo to your vehicle and the e-manage (which ever one you have or even the interceptor x) you will be putting more fuel into your vehicle and not all of that fuel will get burnt in the motor and it will travel through the turbo and end up on your cat and eventually destroy it. I've heard of this happing in as little as 3000 miles just some thing to think about. Are you doing the install yourself or having a shop do it, I did it my self because I'm cheap and I've boosted n/a cars before. If you have any more questions feel free to ask, hope this helps

i have the e-manage ultimate, the car sounds like its struggling to start up, and when i drive not in boost, something under the car rattles, sounds like rod knock. it only does this sometimes. and the check engine light is on, is there anyway to run the codes? and how would i wire electrical for the wideband?

get rid of the emanage, period. it doesnt matter which emanage you have they can and will be the cause for alot of problems in the rx-8. Greddy did a poor job with thier management system because it constantly "fights" the stock ECU for control and many people have blown the motor because of the management system, it doesnt pump enough oil into the motor at high RPM's and isnt tuned right emmission wise which leads to clogging the cat. 6dmnbag did good by replacing the cat with a mid pipe so he wont have to worry about that. But i would replace the management system with either the Interceptor-X or the Canzoomer (Interceptor-X being the better of the two with more tuning options.) Or if you don't want to change management systems you can find out when Steve Kahn is going to be close to your area so he can properly tune the emanage for you.

Knock in a rotary motor sound a lot like marbles in a can, is that kinda like the sound you hear. Knock usually only happens in boost and almost never in vaccum. Check you plugs, you could have fouled one of them which would cause the rough start. If you have a boost guage, do you hear the sound right before you enter boost or while you are in vaccum. If it is right before you hit boost you might have a problem with your pressure sensor. The electrical wires should be pluged into to option one on the emanage and the vacume line should be plugged into the nipple on the throttle body. If you can tell, what side of the motor do you hear the sound. Knock is always heard from the left side while your in the drivers seat. I fouled my plugs the second day after in started driving around. Do you have a rough idle as well, if you do, double check the 3 vacume hoses that are connected to the pipes. The one that connects to 3 inch pipe that connects to the throttle body needs to be connected to a certian hose, I think its the jet air fuel hose but I'm not sure. Have you tuned it yet, if you havent then you should not go into boost at all but if you must then dont do past 3.5krpms. It may not happend the first couple of times but the stock tune that the greddy came with will blow your motor if your constantly in boost. As for the codes, you cant check then unless you have a scanner from canzoomers wich is like 140 bucks or something like that or you have a scanner from mazda. You cant take it to the dealership because they wont touch it since it's turboed. Do you live in california, if you do there are plenty of shops that specialize in rotary performance. If I have a problem with my car that I cant fix then I take it to a shop over in pleasonton wich is by the bay area. That same shop told me about a shop in socal that specializes in tunning boosted rx-8's. So I dove down to socal to get it tuned. I have the names and numbers to both shops if you want them. The owner of the shop in pleasonton has a turbo rx-8 so he know's what he's talking about, really cool guy with lots of information. Gotian was right about the emanage comming with a crappy tune. The interceptor x is much better because unlike the emanage which uses jumpers and the nvcs(nvcs is nisson's form of vtec and I dont know what its called exactly but greddy calls it nvcs) setting to fool the computer into open loop and then it can add fuel at certain rpms and retard the timing, and it only does that when the pressure sensor picks up anything past 0.5 psi or 1.0psi so there is a slight delay in reaction time and that is why the transition into boost is kinda all of the sudden. The interceptor x completly cuts out the stock ecu from fuel delivery and timming, the only thing the stock ecu controlls is idle rpm's I think. Although the Interceptor x is slightly harder to use than the emanage, thats because of the greater controll you have of fuel dilivery. 1400 dollers is alot but its only half the cost of a rebulit motor from mazda. I'm not using it because once again I am cheap and I have already invested in a spare motor which is sitting in my shed and when the time comes I'll be ready, kinda. And if at all possible DO NOT USE OCTANE BOOSTERS! I personnaly have had bad experience with them. I mix my gasoline 8-9 gallons of 110 octane and the rest of 91 if I'm going on a long trip other than that its stricktley 100 octane for my gas tank. Where I live they sell it at a pump. 110 is illegal to pump staight into your car but not 100. I'm sure that I have forgoten to tell you something but I hope this helps.

1400 for the interceptor-X? who's ripping you off? I can get it for 1100 max, though it's still pricey compared to greddy and canzoomer.

I was looking at mazsport.net and its 1499.00. Where did you find it for 1100, if it really is 1100 then I might buy one.

pettit racing, but i'd have to find out if its only offered with the supercharger kit.
