2 door and 4 door models

question-

I have been googling all over to find out if 2 door models are designated with the larger 5.7 engine or whether it was just an option.

There is a sweet 86' 2 door on e-bay that I am interested in, but I wanted to know what differences 2 door models have from 4 doors.

Thanks in advance

The big difference is two large doors instead of four slightly smaller ones, plus the things that go with that (like the front seat backs can tilt forward etc).

The only way to get a 5.7 liter in '86 was to get a 9C1 package car and then only to government agencies (for CAFE reasons). While the 2-door was offered with the 9C1 package, and hence the 5.7, I've never seen one (that I am aware of).

thanks silicon212, In your opinion is there any noticeable difference in increased body rigidity/integrity between the 2 & 4 door models?

The 4-dr should technically be a little more rigid due to the B-pillar in the center. You can overcome that by replacing all of your body mounts with urethane ones.

I saw that coupe I think you're talking about, looks nice. If there's ever an option between a coupe and a sedan I always prefer the coupe. It's classic!

it doesn't get much better than this (well it would be nice if it was a Landau but out of only 3,110 coupes made in '87 you can't be too picky):

Good looking car, but they didn't make Landau's in '87, they made Broughams.

slightly on topic still:
i saw an 86-ish 2-door caprice online with a modified 350 with a tpi intake system.
it was bright red and had chrome nascar style wheels
it was way out of my price range at the time, but it was a beautiful car

I've got a '87 Landau, I wish I knew the exact numbers on their production but all I know is that 3,110 number for 2 door Caprice

You sure about that? I believe the Brougham replaced the Landau, starting with the '86 model year. I could be wrong, though.

I thought I was wrong once, but I was mistaken.

Yah I've got the dealer brochure on the '87 Caprice line and it's in there (very nice dealer brochure for '87 by the way). I've got another dealer brochure which is either a '85 or a '86 brochure and I'll find that around here somewhere and see what that's got for info too.

Had to include another pic of this car because it is so nice looking:

Found it, it's from '85 and so the Landau option is listed in there. Should be for '86 too but who knows.

Anybody know what year or years they didn't make a coupe in the 80's (pre '88 of course)?
