blending paint

hi all,
i have just sprayed the front and tail end of my wifes car,although it states on paint to leave for 7 days before blending in new to existing paint.i feel this is a bit long as surely the paint has set completely.does anyone know how soon i can do it and what is the best way to blend the colour?
