Hello I am the newguy here and have had my pontiac grand prix 1998 se 3.8 Series 2 with about 110000 miles on it for a year. I do enjoy this car and think it runs pretty good as is. When I bought this car someone had taken a GT exhaust system out of another pontiac GP and put it into the one I have. Why he did this is beyond me but he did. (does anyone know if I can put one of those covers taht go onto the bumper that says pontiac, and if so where could i find one) I am now just wanting to get some more peformance. Don't get me wrong I don't want to sound like i'm trying to tune up my corvette, I realize this is a Grand Prix and not even supercharged at that. Are there any ideas on how to improve peformance? Any would be appreciated. My friend said installing a cold air intake would help peformance quite a bit. I don't know if thats true and kind of skeptical of that. Anyway I went and looked for one and could not find on for me 1998 Grand Prix. Again I am only 20 and do not know many things about cars. Any and all sugestions would be great.

A cold air intake does little if any good by itself. The best "bang for your buck" mods to a GT/SE are the u-bend delete, reprogrammed PCM (although most will require a switch to premium fuel), and 1.7/1.8:1 ratio rocker arms.

How much does it cost for a u-bend delete and what does that involve doing. Do you know of any good reprogramed PCM's. I don't know if I want to commit to preminum gas at such high prices though. I certainly have been thinking of doing a little something more with my grand prix like the new guy.

Well i'm only 20 and definitely cannot afford premium gas because I drive quite a bit right now and in college.

So guys can you even run a reprogramed PCM on regular gas and will it help what so ever. Please be blunt I take nothing hardly. I heard they brought hard shifting,

Reprogrammed PCMs tweak a lot of the factory settings. Fuel delivery curve, rev limiter, shift points, trans line presure, etc... Like anything in life, it's a trade off. You sacrifice some smoothness for performance. In my honest opinion, if you want better performance, sell the GT and get a GTP. Your other option for true performance gains on a GT is an aftermarket turbo, but those are $$$!!!
