1993 4 Runner Acceleration/Idling Problems

I have a 1993 4 Runner that has historically been ultra-reliable. Recently it started hesitating when trying to accelerate. Seems to run fine once it is up to speed but when I give it gas it just does not react and gets sluggish. It also idols lower than it did before. I initially thought it was related to some poor fuel as issues started immediately after adding fuel to a low tank. Had the fuel drained, changed fuel filter w/o benefit. Plugs needed changed anyway so I went ahead and changed plugs/wires w/o benefit. Thoughts are that it is not getting air or fuel flow when it needs it but I don't know where to start looking. Any ideas would be appreciated.

I've been going through the same thing since April :frown:
I'm after spending well over $2000 on my 4Runner had it to the dealer and other mechanics and so far no one can figure it out :screwy:
I can tell you what parts I put on it though, so You don't spend the same amount of money with No Results So Far :disappoin
I've had a new Mass Airflow Sensor, fuel pump, fuel regulator, O2 sensor, new spark plugs, plug wires, distributor and rotor button for the distributor replaced, oh and also a Guranteed ECM, Engine Control Module. I also cleaned the Throttle Body and Old MAS Sensor with No Fix.
It all started just like yours I got gas in it and Bingo all the Crap Started
I'm thinking about tackling the fuel damper but I'm low on $ so it will have to wait :frown:
I Truly Wish I Could Help You But Unfortunatly I Cannot , as You can see I'm in the same Boat as you are :banghead:
If I do Find Out I will Definitly Let You Know, If You Find a Cure Please Let Me Know Also.
My 4Runner is a 1994 V6 SR5 3.0L with An Auto Tranny It's shown Below my Name on The Left Sidebar.

Check your TPS, might be the culprit of the problem.

Hey Fisher , if you haven't had it fixed yet try these. If you have a V6, 3.0 L and have had your head gasket replaced theres a sensor at the very back of your engine that could have been damaged in your head gasket repair. And it took a few years to finally go, but still didn't register a Code that could be picked up. That happened to me, also check your wiring coming from a sensor, I think, I KNow it's on the passenger side of the engine midway and easy to get at, theres two plastic connectors that connect to each other , mine are Gray, and they come from a shiney tube like sensor at the top of your engine, the wires could be broke where they come out of the shinny part of the sensor, if thats what that skinny shiney tube is, I'm Not Sure, but check that also. And last but Not Least check your TPS, throttle position sensor , as 4Runner-Rider Suggested.
Those were the Problems I had and my 4Runner was working terrible since April, and I only got it fixed about 3 weeks ago and it cost a small fortune but if any of this advice can help You, Good Luck.
No One Could Fix Mine, Not Even The Dealer. :disappoin

We will never see him come back? He never reply or login. I would also check the timing is at, he might be off.

This sounds all too familiar to me and my '93!
After all the ---> :banghead: I finally determined there was a small coolant leak into one of the cylinders closest to the firewall. I replaced both head gaskets and there you have it, no more miss/hesitation.
Be Courageuos, you'll find it!
