Bike Mileage

Here's something that comes up a lot between my stepdad and I when talking about bikes. And since these days with fuel prices going up I tend to see more bikes out on the road, especially commuting to work. Motorcycle manufactures are making a big deal out of their products getting good mileage...

My stepdads BMW GS650 gets upwards of 60-70mpg hwy, and high 50s on the back roads. And probably gets nearly 200 miles on a tank, if I remember him correctly. Oh, and if you ever get a chance to ride a GS650... they're a lot of fun. His is a low frame version, and it's a hoot to ride around and toss about.

And hiis BMW ST1200R gets mid 50s hwy, and high 40s on the back roads. And can get I believe 225 miles on a tank.

My Daytona, if I can keep the throttle undercontrol while on the highway will push high 50s, even go over 60mpg according to the 'Current MPG' digi readout function. And seems to average mid 40s all around. I can get 175-180 miles out my 4.6 gallon tank, with roughly .4 gallons left. I could probably stretch the mileage out to an even 200 miles if don't do any 100mph+ runs.... which is so hard! It does it so easy... which is scary.

Anywho, what are you folks getting? What sort of distances can you pull off?

I get a little under 200 miles to my 4.5 gallon tank. considering that it's never completely empty when i fill up i'd say i get about 45-50 mpg with normal riding.

I'm still a big fan of the Ninja's... I think yours is the best color they ever came in.

True Story.

im used to getting about 55-60, butthen again im riding a 250 that would barely reach 100mph... absolutely spanking it to get through city traffic i was averaging about 50mpg the other day, but cruising gently at about 50mph in top gear i get about 60mpg

And when I HAD a bike, the damn thing was always between 53 and 54mpg no matter how I rode it... which was up from the 51 or 52 I got before I rejetted the carbs and put on the 4-1 exhaust.

bloody yanks and their stupid non-metric shit. my tank is 18 LITRES so 4.76 gallons. i get about 200k's to the tank or about 124 miles. so i guess, eggs don't bounce, and my mileage is around 24 miles per gallon.

What the hell do you ride? And how do you ride it??

You should be getting better than 24mpg... that's way low.

Aussie rides a Honda 954, and it's throttle to the pegs with that bloke. My Fatboy gets 50+ mpg crusing the backroads )or on the x-way which I rarely ride on), and 35-40 around town sitting in traffic. For me, a bike is about the ride not the destination.

I haven't used a tank of gas - yet but the Shadow should be in the 50s and the VTX should be in the fourties somewhere.

I get about 50-55mpg taking it easy and about 35-40mpg during a canyon run.

throttle?.... what throttle?

first mod i do is put a switch in. on or off. :grinyes:

nah it must be in the calculations. my tank is 18 litres or 4.7 gallons which is standard size for a liter bike and i get 180-200k's

but i usually ride high rpm's

mixed I get about 50ish,
just around town about 30
and I feel like once I got around 70 of just a straight flat highway run.

Well I did some riding the last few days, nothing major some around town stuff, and a few back roads with some freeway.

I had 134.5 miles on the tank when I put gas in, the light came on... 3.47 gallons! That's only an average of 38mpg. I was like "OI! da hell?!?"... oh well, there was a lot of sitting in traffic though... and it was very hot out.

I'm not worried... it's my play toy.

My manual says the bike is designed for 89 octane, which is kinda weird. An engine with 12.65:1 comp ratio, 123hp sport bike... only needs 89? I've been putting in 91, which averages only $.30 more a tank... but I'll try the 89 for a few tanks and see if I notice any change in performance. :dunno:
