Cruise control does not work

I have a 1998 Dodge Grand Caravan. It has around 120k miles on it. My instrument cluster started becoming intermittant a while back and about that time I noticed that the cruise control light would not come on when I pressed the button. I tracked down the intermittant instrument cluster problem which was a loose solder joint on the back of the cluster. However, that did not fix the cruise control problem. All the fuses see to be ok. I noticed on some other posts that the clock spring could cause this problem but all the posts say that when the clock spring is the problem, the airbag light will be on and it is not. Any ideas?
Thanks,
David

It could still be the clockspring. Check with the dealer to see if yours was ever replaced under the recall.

If the stop light switch is bad, that will also cancel your cruise. On my '96 the brake lights were intermittently on after braking and the stop light switch was the culprit.

The 1996 and up Chrysler/Dodge and Plymouth Minivans have problems with clocksprings and have a lifetime warranty on them.Just take take it to the dealer and they will fix it for free with no charge

I will check the clock spring. However, I have looked at several sites about the recall and they all say the dealer will only replace the clock spring free if the vehicle has less than 70K miles. I checked my brake light and it is working correctly.
Thanks,
David

Everything in the steering wheel goes through the clock spring. Horn, cruise control, air bag and radio controls(if applicable). Free or not, clock spring probably has to be changed. That is one you should follow the procedure on, including disconnecting the battery neg.

It is also covered over 70,000 miles. My father sent in a couple that were his lot vans with over 70,000 miles and the clockspring was replaced for free
