1998 Park Ave no start

I recently pulled engine to overhaul transaxle. After reassembly engine will not start. On the dash, it shows that car in in overdrive and will not change when changing the selector through all gears. I replaced the neutral/drive switch on the transaxle but same result. I think that the computer thinks that the car is in drive when it is in park. Does anyone have any idea on this? I need help!!!

Is the starter working?

The starter does not work. I have tried jumping across the 2 anti theft relays but still the starter will not work. Today when I tried to start, I got a message -- Driver Unknown. I have checked all connections, grounds, and fuses.

The 2 times I have seen the driver unknown message the fix was a new battery. Last week I had the same problem and got the code on a 2 year old Interstate battery, my gauges would also peg and then return. I tried antoher battery and all worked OK I then replaced with a new bat and starts every time. I hope this helps
