MSD Ignition?

Has anyone on the forums ever run an MSD ignition module? I have a MSD 6AL with coil and wire harness for easy installation....all for the Tahoe.

I want to run it in a '99 Tahoe 4DR 4x4 - Old Body Style.

I assume that since MSD makes the harness application for the Tahoe that it won't hurt it; it can only make things better. :banghead: We'll see though.

Does anyone think that I need to readjust the timing on the Tahoe after installation?

I also have a new distributor assembly I want to install but need to know how to adjust/check/verify the timing. Anyone have any ideas/thoughts??

You should not have to adjust your timing after module replace, But you will after distributor replace. Drop your new distributor in exactly as the old one was, then you will have to use a scan tool that can read cam timing.

Where can one get one of these scan tools, are they relatively expensive?

And when you do scan, is it relatively easy to determine and adjust the timing to it's correct position.

I have seen them for about $200 but I do not how well they work. Ask around , maybe someone you know might have one or maybe you can rent one from an auto parts store. Sometime the local vocational school auto shop might help you. The two I have Snap-on(about$3000) and OTC(&4000) work but are a little high priced for the do-it yourself.
