Does anyone know if there is a class action lawsuit against GM for their defective plastic UIM and plastic lower UIM gasket? This is the second one that was replaced. I would appreciate and info and additional reading about this.
Thanks

Not to discourage anybody but I don't hold out much promise when it comes to class action lawsuits. To me they are a vehicle for the lawyers to make a lot of money in legal fees while the plaintiffs end up with very little compensation. Over the years, I've joined a few class action suits and I think the most I received was a "coupon" for $20 off a future purchase with the company that was involved in the suit. Your award also goes down pursuant to the number of plaintiffs that join the suit as well. There was an investigative report done on one of those news shows like 20/20 a few years back that looked into these class action suits. They found out that most of the awards went to pay the exorbitant legal fees the law firms charge to handle the suit, leaving very little to split among the members that joined the suit.

I have a 97 with 145,000 miles. It has the original manifold. I think for every 3800 with the problem, there are many, many more that don't have the problem.
I used to focus on the ones that where bad at my friends shop. Now I forget about them and focus on the ones that nothings wrong. I ask almost everyone that has a 3800. At store parking lots, etc... Almost everyone doesn't have the problem.

Yeah, it seems that whenever there is a problem the ones who are experiencing it are the most vocal about it. There is a saying that someone who is experiencing something negative will tell others and they in turn will tell their friends so the problem seems worse than it may be. Many of the threads and posts on this site are related to issues, one experiences with their vehicle. You don't see many people with positive comments unless it thread specific . Therefore one might get the wrong idea about a certain model of vehicle if most of the threads are related to a problem with the vehicle. Many people who are happy with their cars or experience few problems tend not to tell everybody unlike those who experience just the opposite.
