Just purchased a 97 GTP 90K, have an electrical problem, my drivers information center doesnt seem to be working it flashes on and off, also when i turn on the ac/heat fan which only works on hi the day time running lights turn off, and the light that indicates the a/c is on blinks as well, any ideas where to start?? I plan to change the resistor for the fan tomorrow, will this fix the other electrical problems????

Welcome to AF.

To start make sure your battery is good to include all cables and terminals. Alternator output is correct and within specs. You can try the blower motor resistor (BMR) if you have a manual dual zone climate control system. The ACC digital has a blower motor control module. If that doesn't work then you have the first signs of a flaky ignition switch based on your symptoms.

bigd921 and darryl2172,

Why is there a response from darryl2172 in reference to a post by bigd921. If you are the same member or possibly related such as family members then you will need to send me a PM explaining the situation. If you review AF Community Rules we only allow one account per member and no alter ego or alias accounts.

As to the problem.......ignition switch and harness assembly if BMR doesn't work.

If you are DIY capable we have a tech procedure posted at our Tips & Maintenance forum for replacing the ignition switch and harness. About a one hour job.

ok another update, i hate when people have a problem and then dont post the results, so i changed the bmr, changed nothing ( at first), so i ordered the ignition switch, i drove the car to the dmv to register it etc... when i get back in to head home EVERYTHING WORS, fan works on all spedds, dir is working as it should, dtr lights are on and fine, it has been fine for a whole day now, should i replace the ignition switch still?? someone told me the battery may have just needed to charge ??? possible???

I doubt it will stay fixed. Rarely (if ever) does the BMR cause the other electrical gremlins, but a bad ignition switch often causes the loss of blower speeds 1-4. Most likely the arcing ignition switch contacts settled in for a bit, but will begin acting up again shortly, as they will act up intermittently.

I agree Rich. These problems are typically intermittent and will most likely come back.
