Blow Off Valve??

:screwy:So i have heard completely different stories about blow off valves for our cars. From a couple people i have heard that it is a good thing to get a full open atmosphere BOV cuz it ventilates all the extra air out the BOV rather than getting compressor surge you get longer turbo spool. From another couple people i've heard that the intake and turbos need the air to be recirculated in order for everthing to work properly. I currently have the HKS SSQV and i feel a difference in spooling time but i'm unsure if it is completely helping my engine. Would it be a good idea to mix them both and get a BOV that recirculates half of it back to the intake and half out in the air?:screwy:

First off, recirculating ones do not cause compressor surge. If they do, then the owner simply hasn't loosened the spring enough. Second the reason many don't like open atmosphere BOVs for our cars is because they release air that has already been measured by the MAS. So adequate fuel is already being sent to the engine via the ECU, but some of the air isn't, because it just got released from the system....so, you run rich after the shifts. Many, but not all, people even experience stalling problems because of this rich condition.

My opinion is to run recirculating, others say they have no problems running open atmosphere. However, that is the reason to go one way or the other...both prevent compressor surge (the entire reason for having either one in the first place)

it doesnt whistle or anything like that (unless its broke.) It's just a little "chhh" that sounds like its in the glove compartment kinda. The only way i can hear mine is with the windows up. Not at higher revs or speeds either, then the engine/wind noise will drown it out lol.

What kind of problems do i face if i get an aftermarket BOV and dont recurculate it back in to the intake? also will i need to get an A/F gauge if i do that?

A/F guage wont solve the problem..it would just show you that you are running rich. An air/fuel controller on the other hand will help fix the problem, but why spend $300 on a BOV and $500 on a controller to make a louder and completely pointless noise?

Toss on an intake and you will begin to hear your stock recirculating valve...if it isn't leaking, don't fix what isn't broke.
