vr-4 transmission...

ok, so figure you want a 6 speed on the base model 3000GT

the synchros are probably bad on any decent transmission one could find, and it would be hard most likely to find just the transmission alone anyway...

but can anyone say for sure if it would make any benifits or not to swap it out, besides the fact of it being a pain in the ass, and realistic issues such as having no connection to a rear drive shaft?

are the gear ratios better for that much that it might be worth it?

Instead of all that jibberish, you could have just asked a simple question. Better yet...searched.

But to answer all that, no it's not worth it for a base, not enough power for the gear ratios. VCU can be welded to make it FWD only.

i'm assuming you want the 6spd for better mpg on the highway in 6th gear?

if so, do a search for "taller 5th gear". www.teamrip.com makes them for the FWD transmissions. i have one, its awesome.

you have a 300hp AWD twin turbo sports car. quit whining about gas mileage and remember the reason you purchased your car. :p

we both bought that car, but a 6th gear would make 70-80mph so much better for gas. i bought it not caring about mpg.
i was told by my parents by a sports car, bacuase once ur married and have kids, u wont b able to afford one

i dont care about MPG (that much), i just want a little higher cruising speed. I'd be happy with a 5th gear as tall as 6th is on the 6-speeds....100mph @3k

I don't think it'll make that much of a difference. Personally I don't care about gas mileage, I cruise at 80 in 4th-5th half the time just randomly hitting it to hear my bov...or to let others hear it :grinyes:

But really...converting to 6-speed is going to cost you more than it'll end up saving you on gas...that's just not a good financial decision.

eh i dont care, i mean premium where i live was 3.51 last yr, now it's only 2.81, so it's not hurting as much as it could(especially when my car doesnt even move)

gas milage isn't an issue. i was just wondering what everyone here thought in their opinions. this taller fifth gear i didn't know about though.

i was just wondering if by luck i ever came by one, would it be worth it to put on.

his taller fifth gear i didn't know about though.

what aren't you sure about on the taller 5th gear?

its a simple bolt on upgrade. it replaces the stock 5th gear. they make 3 sizes: 8%, 16%, 25% but the latter requires machining of the shift fork so its not really bolt-on. the 16% taller 5th gear will reduce rpms in 5th gear by 16%. its as simple as that. and it will also give you a theoretically higher top speed...of course, you'll need the extra power to reach that speed.

www.teamrip.com sells them. just email and ask about em. i have one in my trans. love it. definitely worth the $300, and much cheaper and more cost effective than the $2,000 you'll spend getting an AWD 6 spd trans to work in a FWD car.

i'm not against it by any means.

i was just saying i didn't know that it was an option until yesterday.

300 isn't a bad price. thanks.
