Hi everyone. I am new to the forum. i own a 2002 Nissan Sentra GXE with the 1.8L engine. i have been having some overheating problems lately. i figured out that i have a slight leak in the head gasket, which lets coolant into the #3 cylinder. due to time constraints, i may have the Nissan dealer fix this. Assuming it will get a valve job (machine work) and new gaskets, how much should this cost?
Has anyone else had this done? Your info is appreciated.

Not really sure. Go to b15sentra.net. They have a lot of 1.8's there that I'm sure have had head problems. I would say over 500, if I had to guess. My opinion on this matter is terrible, though, to be honest.

well, here is the answer- good for your future reference-
Lou Fusz Nissan is doing the work. it will cost about $1500! i called around and even the independent Nissan guys want that much. so i bit the bullet and took it to them. should be ready by Friday.
Other than this, my Sentra has been flawless for 108k miles. an 8-hour trip to Toledo in '05 yielded 37 mpg on the highway @ 75mph w/ A/C on. No problems. one trip to texas and back, no problems ( mileage not as good, as i had 2 bikes on a rack on the trunk). a monthly trip to Fort Leonard Wood, and a daily commute of 37 miles (1 way). i usually average 35-37 mpg.

OK- Here's the latest-
Last Thursday (8-9), the dealer called and said that there was a problemhttp://x.nissanhelp.com/forums/images/smilies/confused.gif, he was hoping to have it completed by Thursday or Friday. Anyway, the tech. found the camshaft broken. i know, i have never heard of a non-racing engine driven under normal conditions breaking a cam. anyway, he said it would take a couple of extra days and $400 more (ouch)http://x.nissanhelp.com/forums/images/smilies/frown.gif. That on top of the $1500 to fix the head gasket!!. i told him to fix it. He called Tuesday, and said it was ready for P/U. I picked up my car and they charged me a little over $1600. i know they could have soaked me for more money, so i wasa glad that they worked the price down.
so, bottom line- Sentra is running great. knock on wood!
so if you need a head gasket fixed on a Q18 engine, it wil cost around $1500. Hopefully, the cam issue is a fluke.
