no fuel delivery

I hit a bad pothole which I couldn't see as I was driving in an absolute downpour. Right after I hit the pothole, the engine died. Spark was fine and the dizzy dry, so I traced the problem to the fuel pump. When I turn the key to on, I cannot hear the fuel pump hum like I usually can, and pulling the air cleaner off to have a look at the throttle body, I cannot see or smell any gas during or after attempts to start the car.
Is there anything I can check before I go in there and pull the gas tank off to look at the pump? The car in question is a 95 3 cyl. I have a 96 3 cyl sitting in my back yard too. If I need a pump fast and cheap, can I pull the one from the 96?
Thanks for any advice!

I am unsure if this is possible, but does the pump have an electrical connection that could have been knocked loose by the pot-hole hit? I've seen this happen on other cars, so if the fuel injection fuse is OK, I think you're on the right track in looking at the pump. It does suck that this cannot be seen with the tank in place...

As I believe that the fuel pump may not be my problem, I have started a new thread @ http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=4887397#post4887397
