Synthetic Oil

I have just purchased a 2003 530i with 79,000 miles. I want to put synthetic oil in it, because the dealership I purchased it from had regular oil in it. I want to know if I have to flush the engine before replacing with synthetic oil? Also, how long will synthetic oil last me in this vehicle?
