how can i disconnect the locking mechanism that keeps the shifter from going into gear after applying the brake?

it has gotten to where it will not shift out of park!!!!

Max, welcome to AF. To answer your ? just disconnect the wires from the interlock unit located on the right lower steering column. Look for a connector with a black wire and a dark green with a white stripe wire.

If you'd like to know more about how the system works and what other things may cause your problem, post back and we'll detail it for you.

I had the same problem and dissabled mine as per this post.(Thank you!) However, I would like to know more about this system and perhaps get it back to working normally.

With the key in the "run" position, tranny in "park" and brake pedal released, you should have power on the DK Grn/Wht wire. Also check for a good ground on the BLK wire.

If you have power, it should go away when the brake pedal is depressed.

Post back what you find.
