2002 Regal Light Problems

I have a 2002 Buick Regal with light problems. Tail lights, Licence plate lights, Odometer Light, Automatic Head Light Sensor and Dash Dimmer do not work.
Headlights work when turned on manually. Brake light and turn signals work okay. Also, the audible warning sounds even when the Keys are NOT left in the ignition. The Dimmer and Tail Light fuses are not blown but there is to power to them at the fuse box. I have checked fuses under the hood and they seem to be okay. I have also replaced the Headlight Switch with no results. Can anybody help?

Thanks,

Allen

Welcome to AF.

How about the daytime running lights (DRL). Are they working? With the items not working it sounds like more than one problem.

And can you clarify the above in bold. Is there power to the fuses?

The DRL do not work. The tail light and dimmer fuses are okay but there is now power to them. I checked the fuse block with a test lights. Yesterday the "Driver Information Center" went out but it came back on when I hit the top of the dash with my hand. Any chance this coulb be caused by the BCM?

Thanks,

Allen

Do you mean:
A - The tail light and dimmer fuses are okay but there is now power to them.
B - The tail light and dimmer fuses are okay but there is not power to them.

Opps! There is not power to them

Thanks

The power originates from a 20 amp underhood fuse.
It then goes to the headlamp switch via an orange wire. Power won't go to the dimmer fuse or tail lamp fuse unless the headlight switch is turned to on or park. Let us know what you find & we'll continue from there. I'm suspecting the body control module or a bad ground.

Although it is possible, hard for me to agree the problem is a BCM module. Check out the ignition control and power circuits better and look for a possible bad ignition switch and harness assembly.

The "Driver Information Ceter" light dimmed agian. When I slapped the top of the dash it came back on. Could this be a related to the ignition?

By the way, thanks for you help. If I end up taking it to a mechanic at least I will be familiar with the componets. I never realized that one thing affects so many other things when it comes to electrical problems.

Really hard to say on the DIC. There are known problems with the IP with DIC found in the Regals related to the dimming problems or going out completely. Something about bad resistors due to a power surge, etc. I have a link to the IP fix I can post for you.

Where do I find the link?

Thanks for your help,

Do you think the DIC/IP could have something to do with the tail lights not working?

I took the car to a mechanic and they fixed everything but the Odmeter. They think I need a new IP Cluster. If I replace the cluster will the Odemeter read the correct milage?

If replaced with a new IP Cluster it will read zero until the odometer module located in the IP is programmed with your last known mileage. A used or pull from a salvage yard may have the salvaged vehicle's last mileage before the salvage action or accident that totalled it.

A company called Southern Electronics can repair and program GM IPs.

99 Buick Regal LS lighting problem:
Had similar lighting problems that were solved quickly by scanning this forum which helped point me in the right area.
99 Buick Regal LS had no dash illumination on speedometer and tach. No night illumination on rear of vehicle. All other illuminations were found to be working. Found blown 15A fuse in side fuse panel. Turned out to be 2 broken wires in flex wiring harness in trunk lid hinge area. Turned out to be a 20 minute fix. I suspect this to be a common problem area due to the constant flexing during trunk opening. :screwy:
