is it really a big deal if i removed the heat shield from my stock headers?

No not really, I took mine off. The stock header looks like ass though so if you plan on keep the header stock I would look more into polishing the heat shield. That what I ended up doing.

because i took mine off already and im planning on getting headers

i wanted to see how the car would sound with opend headers but i dont want to deal with shit so i guess im gonna just leave the shield off and ill buy some ebay headers soon

and i just couldnt get the last screw off on the headers that connect to the downpipe

so hopefully i could get that off in the future, ill prolly just end up waiting till school starts because i take automotive classes and we have lifts and all that crap so ill just work on my whole exhaust then

I noticed my car runs hotter without it on (coolant temp) and therefore slower wirh more knock. So you tell me if its worth it, are you gonna open your hood and everyone say DDDDDDDDDDDAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMMMMMMMMMNNNNNn cause you have some stainless steel header or you gonna have a car that still works properly.
So if you care about estetics as previously mentioned just polish it.

He isin't turbo so there is less heat in the engine bay. The reason I say he is ok is because I dont run a heat shield on my turbo and it has gotten so hot it will glow and hasn't melted anything.

Header.... you only have ONE.

It's fine to run without the sheild. Everything on the 420a sit far enough away not to cause any problems. It may raise engine temp up a couple degrees, but I think you're fine. Our engines are so small and the bay is so big that nothing is close enough (on N/Ts) to melt anything. I've had a header for years now and sure the bay gets hot, but I can go and touch the fans or pretty much anything else and not be burning hot.

you're going to raise under the hood temps, and the intake charge... meaning less efficient burning of the fuel, and less HP... it's best to keep it there or wrap your header;)

Now you can do it, it shouldn't make too much of a difference b/c you're non-turbo, but it can possibly cause your paint to start peeling (clearcoat)...

Don't run it as an open header... I had stock and opened the test pipe (left rear off)... the car was slower (less low RPM torque) and too f'in loud

Same here. When I did my exhaust and was giving a test run, the cat disconnected from the DP :/ which made it loud as hell, and had NO power at all. Now we can get into the arguement of back pressure and all of the exhaust on turbo and N/T cars, but that's another story.

Speaking of header wrap, I'm doing mine this weekend! Had the wrap, just have to get the clamps for it.

I have a 4-1 header i believe. i got it almost 2 years ago and stuck it in my closet and forgot about it. Is their a special way to wrap it up? What exactly do I need??

You have to buy header wrap. Can get at any performance store... NOT Pep Boys or any of those. Then you need the actual clamps to hold it onto the header. They're like metal zip ties.

according to the research I've done on the net about Header Wrap, Its not good. Apparently it can weaken the headers, or cause a fire.
