Hot Start Problems

I've got an 05 malibu with the V6. On hot starts, sometimes the starter doesn't disegage fast enough. It will turn over a few times after the engine has started. Anyone had this problem?

Well, I have a 98 but it seems like the starter is returing fast like it should do you have trouble starting the car the same way you say but when it cold.

I have seen solenoids stick when the ignition switch is released. This I've seen more when hot then cold but have seen it in both situations.

Also, but less likely, I've seen ignition switches that won't return to the run position as fast as it should causing the starter to spin for an extra second or 2.

It might be nothing more than a sticky gear drive or starter bendix.

I was wondering also if it may be a sticky solenoid. I wasn't sure if it was computer controlled starting or not. Sounds like it has the normal starter switch which controls the solenoid. I was hoping it was a normal problem that you guys had encountered before, guess I'll just have to start digging.

It does seem like it only occurs on warm starts though. Never when its cold.

Pretty sure that on this vehicle, the starter is computer controlled. If you let go of the key just before the starter catches and it still cranks, then it will be computer controlled. In terms of your issue, I don'[t know if you have an issue. Generally speaking, if the starter continues to engage after the engine has started, then the starter throw-out might be to blame...
