Spoiling my Ride

First, I've gotta know, how are you supposed to remove the wiring to the trunk lid? The Chilton manual was 100% wrong for my 1992 LeSabre; there was no wiring harness that I saw. Of course, due to the circumstances of the trunk lid being trashed, I was frustrated, and didn't look much, so in the end I had to bust out my trusty knife and just slash the wires. (at splicing time I'll regret it)
For, ah, future reference, how do I get the wiring out the correct way?
To the topic of my thread, since I'm going to replace my trunk lid, is there any easily swappable trunk lid with a spoiler built on? It may sound vain, but if I'm going to spend hard earned money and time in the pick-n-pull resurrecting what the insurance guys told me was totalled, then I want to bring my ride back with style.
I've heard that some models of pontiac bonneville can fit, but I have no evidence of that. So before I started playing with cars all day in the junkyard, I thought I'd ask and save myself some frustration.

I can't imagine that GM made ANY cars ever with swappable body parts to the degree you are talking about. For all the dimensions to be exact would be an amazing coincidence, in my opinion. That said, I could be wrong. Even if you COULD put a Bonneville trunk lid on, why would you want to? The lights wouldn't match up right (the 92 has part of its lights on the car and part on the trunk lid and they match each other, which the Bonneville would undoubtedly NOT).
Not only that, but a LeSabre souped up to look like a race car would probably look stupid. You are free to try and make it work and free to like it, but the rest of the world will probably be wondering what is going on in your head.
As for bringing your ride back with style: if you don't like the styling of the LeSabre, why not sell it and get a car whose styling you do like?

The spoiler thing was about a personal "better-than-before" pride issue, but it's really just an idea I put out there out of curiosity, though it would make the rear end more visible.
What I'd really like to know is how to deal with the trunk's wiring. I didn't find any sort of easily unclipable harness, so how does a guy remove and install a new trunk lid the right way?
Slashing and splicing gets old fast. ;)

If you're looking to see what other body parts fit your vehicle, take a look at a Hollander Interchange Manual. Many salvage yards use these to identify what parts interchange with what vehicles.
If you want a spoiler that bad, you may have to settle for an aftermarket version.

Disconnect the wiring from the lock actuator and the trunk lid light. I believe there is a grommet in the lid where the wiring comes through, remove it, and the wiring should simply lip through the openings inside the lid. The hard part will probably be trailing the wiring up through your new trunk lid, working against gravity, with very little space to feed the harness. BTW, if you did manage getting a Bonneville trunk lid to fit your LeSabre, I'd give you some props! As for the spoiler, you wouldn't be the first to have one on a LeSabre, I've seen one online before!

I second those opinions. :iceslolan
You may want to switch to a different style car if you are going to go to those legnths of modification. :2cents:

Why switch to a different style of car? My ride is heavily damaged, and since I have to rebuild her, I thought about adding a thing or 2. Why rebuild something the same as it was? Sure, it'd work, but there is now the opportunity to do better. A spoiler wouldn't do much in the way of functionality, true, but it was an idea. An aftermarket spoiler would involve drilling into the trunk lid, meaning that once I got the spoiler, I had better like it, as it can't come off.
Besides, all trunk lids are equally priced at the Pick n Pull junkyard. Wouldn't you see if you could get something extra at no additional cost?

That all depends on what that extra something is. I wouldnt put just anything on my Lesabre just for the sake of making it different. Only thing that I have in mind right now is a set of quality wool seat covers because the leaather is too hot in the summer and too cold in the winter. Unfortunately it will be costly but will be for a good cause as i spend 9 hours per day in my Lesabre.
Good luck rebuilding you ride:popcorn:
