Meh, I wouldn't believe that they would bring it back. Maybe it's just to stir up interest.
It wasn't too long ago that "so-called" reports were coming out saying that Honda was developing a new CRX. And yet again, nothing ever happened. Instead it's been new designs for the Civic. Predictions that I read into a few years back stated that the CRX would be introduced in 06 or 07.
Haven't heard anything since. Oh well.

Well...at least it looks better than the new 1er. I mean, I love 99% of Banglization to BMWs, but that new 1 series looks like a 3 coupe and a Honda civic had a drunken one night stand, and out popped a kid. With down's syndrome.

if you ask me, looks like it has dodge caliber tail lamps, and the front looks like a mitsubishi FTO mixed with a 350z, but in a celica body, and on the celica chassis. id still rock it though.

I saw this thread a while ago, in reality, I just get tired of saying the same thing over and over again. This is old news from 2000-2001, even to this day, it's still a rumor. Reviving the rwd corolla is the least of Toyota's worries, they have dedication to making hybrid cars because that's where their sales have climbed. There was an article saying how Toyota's hybrids sold more than all of Volkswagen's cars altogether.
If Toyota "did" bring back the rwd corolla, it's pretty much to please die-hard toyota fans a.k.a the sport compact tuning crowd a.k.a mAd TytE DoRiToZ, and at which the_stig or matty stated that we make up very little compared to the rest of the people who buys cars, and that is very true. Therefore, I'll say it again, that reviving the rwd corolla is of Toyota's least worries.
Adding to that, Toyota's "son-of-supra" which will be aiming at the new Nissan GT-R will be more than enough to please the rwd crowd.
93rollaracer, the mk4 supra ran until 2002 in Japan, four years ago would be 2003.

The front looks to just be a continuation of the current Toyota styles. The Camry, IS, and GS are have fronts that look like that.
If compared to anything, though, to me it looks like a baby GT-R from the front.
But heck, if they did produce those, I'd definitley get it. Would have infinitley better gas mileage than I'm getting now and it would actually be mine.

Ya mean the 200X Domestic Market Supra that has been coming to the states since '99? Or the 150k Lexus that, if the SC was any indication, no one will buy?

the "son-of-supra" is exactly that, the supra's son. The "supra" name is dead, hence the "son-of-supra" nickname given to the upcoming car that will compete with the Nissan GT-R. Not sure if you guys are up-to-date with the supra's son rumors recently, but current idications states a v-6 and v-8 option. V-6(300-350HP), $30K+ or so, V-8(400-450HP) $40K+. The Lexus LF-A is competing in it's own class, chasing down /porsches/ferraris/etc if I'm not mistaken, V-10(under 5 Liters) (550HP+) and 200+ MPH, with a $150K range pricetag. This supercar is derived from Toyota's F1 knowledge, 9,000+ RPMs, dual vvtl-i, etc. If I had the money, I would buy one, F1 engine FTW!

Rice(er), get it through your head, there will not be another Supra. Period. Just like Ferrari will not make another Dino, Toyota will not make another Supra. Magazine rumors are just that, rumors that rarely, if ever, have backing. Using the same Ferrari example, all the magazines had Dino return cover stories, and the CEO of Ferrari came out and said that Ferrari will not do that, and he has no idea where the rumors come from. Until I see an official press release on that V6/V8 Supra, not one in the "Rumors and Lies" section of SCC, I will continue to hold there will be no Supra. And connections with "high ranking toyota insiders" (that 99% of the time are interns) don't count.
The time for the Supra has come and gone. Toyota has dominated the market with their fuel sipping daily driven econoboxes, not the Supras and Celicas and MR2s and the like. That and their trucks. Look at their line up as it is right now...where is there a sports car? Where? There isn't one. They have cornered the market and dominated through cheap production methods and kicking the "fleet cars" to the curb. Not with sports cars and awesome super cars. Their major advertisment catch is the milage you can get with a Toyota. And besides, they are so busy sucking off Al Gore right now, they wouldn't want to release some high power sports car for risk of loosing all those idiot greens.
That Lexus LF-A, while not only existing as the only up "possible" car that looks uglier than the new 1er, is going to be a complete and total flop. Chevy was smart, and didn't try to market the Zed to the Supercar group, they marketed to the segment that would eat up the Z06s, and they did. Yes, the Z06 will out perform most of the Euro Supercars, but Euro Supercar owners don't want a Chevy, they want the Raging Bull or the Prancing Horse or the Tueton Terrors. Chevy was smart, didn't advertise to that group, and I think the Z06 is a great success.
Toyota is going to loose so many possibly buyers with a 150K Lexus. Especially when they are running behind the pack. There is nothing special about the technology on the LF-A at all. Nothing. The M6 has 500hp, capable of around 200mph stock (BMW is playing the Chevy game now, under rating everything), and and F1 derived 5.0L V10. That LF-A is so late to the game, it wont even compete. And be perfectly honest. If you had the type of money it takes to buy a 150K plus car, are you gonna buy the Toyota or the Lambo/Ferrari/Porsche/BMW?

No reason to insult there cassies. It's just as you stated. The Z06 was marketed to those who would want the Z06. You can clearly tell that's where rice(er) is coming from.
I'd imagine that Toyota/Lexus is marketing their upcoming 150K Lexus to those seeking the next performance car from Toyota. I'd understand if rice(er) planned on buying the new Lexus, because well, he's a devoted Toyota guy. More than likely, Toyota themselves aren't planning on trying to pursuade most of the market to buy their next "performance" car, but rather give their own enthusiasts a reason to keep buying from their company.
Preference and choice is a free right to any enthusiast. So why rob them of their chioce just because there are "so many better" choices out there. You could argue with him all day, but it probably won't make a difference. In the end, he's still going to want that 150K Lexus. End of story.

well, all this 150k lexus,is going to be good for toyota. eventually, those parts and technology used in this new lexus, will be presented into the lower models.
think of the integra. most of it came from revisions of nsx parts.
this just sets toyota up just like honda in that department.
eventually we will have a new celica, given a different name, and a 'gts-r' version of some new 'sports 4 cylinder'.

ok to give an idea as to how dumb it is for lexus/toyota to put the lf-a at 150k+. there is all this hype about the nissan gtr being a nissan, because that's what it has always been and that's y it is a nissan, but originally they wanted it badged as an infiniti because...who want's to spend 60k+ on a nissan? justify it.
i would because i know the liniage of the car, i know where it's coming from, the lf-a is coming from left field, from a company that has never made a supercar(no the surpa really isnt one). and trying to compete with companies such as porsche, ferrari, lambo, pagani, mercedes, spyker, and god knows who else. it's not gonna work, imo.
for 150k, i could get a 480hp awd porsche turbo(which gives the prestige of owning one, but also the history of that company and the 911 alone) and still go out and get some shitbox honda civic for daily driving. i can get a 1yr old 430.
as for a new 86, i tihnk the idea is great. rwd coupe's have pretty much disapeared from under 30k. we got the mustang and that's really it.
the sales are still there for a cheap rwd coupe, nomatter what is said by mags

I said the Miata/Solstice/sky were roadsters but they are under 30k and are rwd.
The RX-8 has 2 doors and 2 half doors that together weigh less than the 350z two doors. The RX-8 is also considered a coupe as it is in the same class and category and is a competitor to the 350z, it is also the most competitive car in B-stock for autocrossing with the 350 being close 2nd.
