retrofit radio info needed?

I have a 1993 Chevrolet Caprice that has a bad Delco AM/FM Cassette Radio and would like to replace it without doing any dash mods, etc, and and would like to know what size radio this is referred to as and how do I find other car types and year model cross reference that will replace this bad radio! QWA CD type radio is also ok, I just want to keep it factory look orginal and not do any dash mods! I have heard of Buicks, etc, but do not know what years fit or how to refer to the size code of the existing radio?:wink: :wink:

I went to crutchfields and got the size code as CG, E, GC, OR, UR with a depth of 5 3/8 inchs!:)
I looked on couple of Delco radios that I know are the wrong size that appears to have all the orginal paper stickers on them and do not see any code letter size listed!:uhoh:
How do I use these code size letters listed to refer them to a radio or another GM SAME size USED vec radio????? (for example is their a cross reference list from my vec radio to other years and body style chevrolets, Buicks, etc???:shakehead

Your stock size is the CG/GC because those are bigger than the typical single DIN. CG/GC is one and a half DIN and should be relatively easy to tell if it will fit because its an oversized radio. I don't know of a list that says what vehicles have this size, but it was only on GM and Chrysler vehicles. Here is an example of what the radio is gonna look like sizewise and should work with your caprice.

Good thing is that GM uses the same stuff in many of their vehicles including radios so there can't be that many "different" Delco radios out there.

I have a radio like the one in the picture link you sent and it is not a fit! The width and height both are incorrect (little too narrow and little too High) I'm trying to stay with Delco orginal look and fit Delco GM!
Guess I will just have too stay with the same Vec type and years models or Remove my Radio Again and leave it out for comparison!
It also appears that a used GM Delco radio from a vec could have a password installed and not run when power is applied, so on used stuff kinda like buying a pig in a poke!

I am not 100 % sure if the first one will work but, while that is still a GM/Delco radio, that is a rare radio and i'm not suggesting it as a replacement. I just used that as an example of the CG size/ovesized radio you'd need. I guarantee you that cassette one will work and actually they give a list of what that cassette radio will work with. That makes a very good vehicle list for you to see what GM vehicles will have the same radio as you. May want to check out junkyards in your area if you don't wanna get one online. And you can always get the password reset if it is set. I don't think its worth buying a new factory radio but that is just me.

Ok, I kinda misunderstood what you were actually saying! (I got off on the wrong page on the second one) I sent two e-mails about the one that should fit but it appears that I am whipping on a dead horse there, no response, yet) I just asked them if they knew if it operated ok, so NO anwer unowdays usually means, well it means AS IS, don't know!

You are right on about the salvage yards and the ones I talked to have no return policy on such so cannot pay much due to pig in a poke syndrom! The whole dash has to be removed just to test the radio and the vec cannot be driven with the dash out so it's not worth the hassel trying to test the radio at the salvage yard! I may try to find a power plug wiring harness qabout 6 inchs long for the radio and I know how to bench test them with 12v gel cell battery that I have and I also have speakers! I worked on radios and tv's few years ago so I know the do's and don'ts of such!

Can you Give me a hint about password restore if needed?

I see a 1994 Caprice sedan Delco CD player model radio for sale with size codes E, S, U.

The E is common to both radio sizes! Does this mean that it will fit the dash without modification and use my existing factory mounting hardware or what is it indicating?:screwy: :screwy:

E is one of the single DIN sizes. You won't want it because a dash kit is required to fill in the extra space your 93 Caprice has. If you don't want any dash kits or modification then the CG is your only option.
