ok... i bought a 94 maxima not too long ago from a guy who had his system stolen out of it. i got nissan to reinstall the stock harness so i could install a new radio. anyway i got an alpine cda7893 which is the silver and blue one that flips down and angles. i installed it. works great until i turn the lights on. when i do the sound either shuts off or i get a crackeling noise. THEN i tried to run a new power wire directly from the battery to see if that was it... i turned the radio on and it shut off immediatly. bought a new radio... same thing. i basically rewired the whole thing and it still does it. Also when i have the headunit on, the dash lights come on dimly...
WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON?!?!?!?

oh yeah by the way... wired an amp and box... protection light for the amp came on, bought a new amp... started smoking.

is anyone has any ideas or info please let me know... im stumped.

first disable your amp
if your deck is running your highs, then turn off the amp, and just power on the deck
see if it still comes on
if it does, the first thing id check is your ground wire, or dimmer connection
from there, go to your amp

yup start at the source and slowly and systematically work your way through the system until all is sweet

i found the problem with the deck.
breif history:
i bought the car from a nissan authorized dealership that gets nissans that have been either stolen or banged up alittle. anyway mine was a stolen recovery. they stole the car and the system that was in it at the time... had the dealership wire the harness for me before i took the car.

turns out that some asshole newbee decided to run the power for the dash lights (get this!) off of the front right speaker!!!:biggrin2::flipa: :flipa::badass:

anyway when i turned the dash lights on, there was a quick flash of 12v backfed into the deck. as a safety precaution the radio turns its amp off of this happens. anyway i rewired it.:D

Still cant figure out the amp though.

thanx for the replies... keep'em commin'

yea, you have to VERY careful of idiots ... they are everywhere. It's why many people learn to install their own stuff.

the amp is simple
if its brand new that is
just start the basic
make sure your power wire is to the battery, and isnt grounding anywehre
then check your ground.
then your remote
when those are hooked up, turn it on.
see if the GOOD light comes on. if it does, your ok so far
then you can hook up RCAS, then speaker wires
try that............

i got everything working. i figured out that (somehow... dont ask how) there was actually a 12v going through the RCA's... once i fixed the deck, the amp worked properly. my system sounds great now, especially in this car. thanks for all the suggestions and help. nice to know i can go somewhere for an honest opinion without being ragged on for asking a question
