Linkage

Okay, my friend's 79 camaro z28 has a fscked shifter linkage. It's a 350 with a 3 speed auto. He has an old busted up 86 camaro sitting out in the back of his shop, stripped, no engine or tranny, but the linkage was still there and we were able to pull it out, looks to be in good shape. The engine was a 305 with a 4 speed O/D auto. Will the linkage be compatible with the 3 speed on the 79?

Might work, but I'd sure hate to be there on that night somebody forgets and is determined on getting it into 1st gear.
