i have a 96 sts with the factory cassette player. i want to upgrade the stereo. will changing to an aftermarket radio cause problems in this car? would it be wiser to seek out a caddy cd player? could i trust circuit city or best buy to install a new aftermarket stereo?

NO,DO NOT trust a place like best buy or circiut city to get this done! I have had to clean up their mess many times from people taking units to them to be installed. Installing an after market unit into a cady is hard, but a good local shop can get it done and done right. They have a reputation to hold locally, and will ussually do it for less than a big store. Just take it in to them and they can tell you the options for your car, you might be surprised what the small man/woman can do for you!

I agree, I have the 95 STS and the radio has controls for many other things like the seat memory, remote starter and others that I don't see how you replace that with anything aftermarket. And as I posted earlier today, the idiots at Best Buy are not called Geeks by mistake, these idiots are one step above a shade tree mechanic and make promises they cannot deliver. And the previous statement is correct, make sure your technician knows Cadillacs, they are a different breed. My boys had an Ipod wire put in by Best Buy and they put this ridiculous FM modulator in that interfered with my FM radio. The guy couldn't figure it out, had not clue as to why it wouldn't work, we removed it and got stuck with a labor bill non refundable. I should have refused to pay it under the condition that the idiot didn't know what he was doing. Live and learn, and don't fix it if it ain't broke.
