help with tranny

i've been having trouble for a while. 1st it started surging up and down when i was cruising around 60 mph. then when it would get hot it would shift hard mostly from 1st to 2nd. thane months later the p1870 code came up. now i only have 1st and 3rd gear. no rev no 2nd 4th or overdrive. should i have it rebuilt or put in a new one from dealer or one from jasper?:frown:
