I'm looking into purchasing a 2003 Mitsubishi Lancer ES, but while looking at the Carfax statement, it said that there were the following recalls:
Recall #C0409Z Lancer/Outlander Replace fan
controller
Recall #C0505J 2002-2005 LANCER PCM REFLASH
I'm not really all that car savvy, so I was wondering if anyone knows what these mean? Are they serious issues that will cost me hundreds of dollars to repair? Thank you for your time.

I used to drive a Lancer ES. And I got the notification in the mail about these recalls. The problem was related to the cooling fan. They were having problems with the controllers failing, and as a result the cooling fan would stop working, which would cause the engine to overheat. So they replace the cooling fan controller, but as a result they need to reflash the PCM chip. I went to my local dealership and they did all this for free.
