Passenger side does not cold air. Drivers side is cold. I have disconnected the battery for a short period of time and the problem will go away obly to return after a short while. What could be the problem?

The climate control system uses temperature control actuators. The dual zone system has one for the drivers side and one for the passenger side. These control blend doors in the lower HVAC assembly. You can check the operation of the temp. actuator. The passenger side one is located behind the glove box to the upper left.

hello. my parents 99 century has the opposite problem. hot air on drivers side, cold on passengers side. i changed the battery 4 days ago, and no other mechanical work has been done recently. where is the drivers side temp actuator located, or what else could i look for to try and clear up this problem? any help appreciated. thanks, greg.

Yeah that happens for some unexplained reason. Something about the temperature actuator gets out of whack when the battery is disconnected. You could try disconnecting the battery a few times to see if it resets but before doing that make sure both driver and passenger temperature controls are set to max cool (blue) and the climate control unit is turned OFF. This normally works on the ACC - automatic climate control systems but yours is a dual zone manual but doesn't hurt to try it. Good luck.

my parents has the digital display. that is burned out, so i am getting a new board for it. so, if i undo the battery, it should work? i changed their battery about 4 years ago, and this didnt happen. should i still try to set the digital display to the highest positions?

Should not make any difference but the important part is make sure the climate control is turned to the OFF position. But just make sure the temperature controls are adjusted for the coldest position. Then remove battery negative cable, let sit a short period of time and then reconnect. You may have to repeat.

ok, well i might as well wait a couple days till i get the new circuit board and can see the display then. i will write you again soon, when that other part comes in. thanks for your help so far.

ok, i replaced the digital display. set to coldest positions for both sides, turned off. removed battery cable, but it is still 12-13 degrees warmer on the drivers side than the passengers. any other suggestions?
thanks, greg.

Are you sure that the system is not low on refrigerant? You will need to check the high & low side pressures for best and more accurate results. Same thing happened to my PA several months ago, it was 8 oz low. Charged it up and now the temps are the same on both sides!

i have not checked the refrigerant charge, but since it is coming out at 47 on the passengers side, and about 59 on the drivers side, i would not think it is low on charge.

:sorry: Am I confused, or are you confused.
In your first post (First quote above) you said "passenger side does not get cold"!
In your most recent post, you said; "since it is coming out at 47 on the passengers side, and about 59 on the drivers side".
Which one is correct? :dunno:

the second is correct. passengers side IS colder than the drivers side.

I agree with HotZ28. Standard procedure when there is uneven cooling across the evaporator core and driver's side is not as cold as passenger is to check the refrigerant charge. It should correspond to the ambient or actual temperature.
I see the OP and the second poster are not the same so a little confusion. Best to start your own post and not bootstrap off anothers.
