Every time I start my GP and drive a few feet, there is a groaning sound. I have determined it originates from the ABS unit. Now there are more ABS problems. WHen driving and the steering wheel is turned, the groaning sound again happens and from time to time the ABS/Trac Off light come on and stay on.
Also, twice now, the Radio "LOC" display has hapened.
I have a high end code reader but I have surmised from reading here that I need one that is ABS specific. There are no codes.
Is the steering noise a result of bad bearings and the act of turning causing the failure of the sensors in the ABS system?
Thanks

Based on your symptoms of the radio "LOC" coming on start with checking out the battery and charging system (alternator). Also, make sure all cables at the battery are good to include the terminals.
Getting some noise (modulation) during ABS initialization may be normal but you may have a problem with one of the wheel sensors. Also, check the wiring where it runs along the lower control arm and to the electrical connector to each hub. Make sure the electrical connectors are free of moisture, corrosion and tight.

Bnaylor:
Thanks. Fixed the "LOC" problem. Corroded Positive cable connector...
The noise happens when turning and then usually the "ABS" light and "TRAC OFF" lights come on and stay on.
Wil check wiring. Could the bearings be in need of replacing...
Do you know if I can upgrade my ACTRON Model CP9180 Scanner to read ABS info?
Thanks

It could still be the hub/bearing/wheel sensor.
Also, you could check the wheel sensor resistance in addition to the wiring but definitely checkout the wiring and electrical connectors first. Resistance is around 1K ohms across the terminals hub side.
On your scanner not that I am aware of. I have the CP9145 and there is no ABS upgrade option but check with Actron Tech Supprt. Good people and good support.
