Anyone started their Revell Audi R10 yet ?

This kit seems to have dropped into a modelling black hole. Now it's out in Europe, there is absolute silence about it from the European builders and the eager Americans (as I believe it is due out in the US in September ?!).
I'm just about to begin mine and was wondering if anyone has already started their builds. Some immediate needs have been found (modifying and plumbing the cooling radiators to the engine for a start) and I was hoping for some luminaries to offer other tips.
Any one ?

Just started mine. Working on the interior . Will post pics soon. Lots of plumbing to do but the basics are there. I now have a mill and lathe so I guess I'll learn a lot on this build. Need to fabricate particulate filters also. Going to learn resin casting for those. Good luck with your build.

That looks pretty good to me. The only thing I would have done differently would probably be the shade of silver and I would have painted the gray areas as I think it is supposed to be a darker gunmetal type color. I have two on order and I hope someone does this years LeMans winner. I also have the SMS kit which is simply fantastic, but the Revell kit will look good too with some attention. I don't think LMM will do the 2007 winner since Revell has this kit out.

Lathafummi, that's a nice finish you've got. Which Halfords paint did you use ? I did some testing on Tamiya's Silver Leaf and Mica Silver, which were too dark, so I've decided to go with Revell's silver (90) as it's a very close match and automotive paint flecks looked too big.
Scalecentral, I'm going to try and do the 2006 ALMS champion as most of the decals were the same as on the Le Mans winner. With some home brewing, the ALMS specific decals shouldn't be a problem. The same should be the same for the 2007 Le Mans winner. You may want to check again and save yourself some work as the dark grey decals do look fairly accurate.

AudiS6, how much plumbing are you doing ? I've got some good pictures of the engine and the number of wires I can see.... well, I'll leave them to a more skilled builder :grinno:

It Audi siver, just by luck I had it lying around. And its one of those wierd resizing affects the flecks dont look that bad in real light.

One thing that shows is as I have always said... even the real things aren't always perfect. Look at the seams and the edge on the red upright. Why should one strive so hard to be perfect, lol. Btw, I see what you are saying about the gray. I will have to wait and see when mine get here.

And this was the show car !!! But I agree about perfection. I have a great pic of the upper front suspension of Jensen Button's BAR F1 car. While everyone tries to get their CF decals in one piece, this pic shows the strut in 3 definite pieces.
I've found the IMSA and ALMS decal images for the ALMS winner so all I have to do now is create the number panels and the class number decal. Can anyone recognise the font for the numbers ?
And gionc, hope you like these (with thanks to SpeedArena and Google:icon16: )

Mark,
Revell Germany released the kit in Europe in July and Revell USA is releasing the kit in September. I believe all the respondents in this thread so far are in Europe (I'm in the UK) so unless you wish to import one from over the pond or are prepared to pay some big bucks for a resin kit, I'm afraid patience is your only other option :frown:

You shouldn't pull down your work. What you have done so far looks really good. You have achieved a very nice even finish with the silver which can be a real pain sometimes. The decals also look very neat.:)

I got two this past weekend. They are very good kits. My only complaints are the wheels, simplified rear suspension, and the many sink marks on the chassis pan. Overall though, it is worth the price compared to the resin items. Dexter has already released their PE. S27's should be by the end of the month. Hopefully we will start seeing some WIP's pop up on it. BTW, my rear deck fits perfect. There's no warpage to the kit at all.

Andy,
I'm new to this site and just wanted to say thanks for the reference pics you posted. The R-10 is a future project once they release the kit here in the states. I've been monitoring this site for the past few weeks and your guys work is excellent!!!! Thanks for the motivation!! I love building road racing kits and haven't found other builders around here with much interest. Everyone here just builds NASCAR. Hope you don't mind if i hang around here with you guys!!!
Thanks

new to this website and just wanted to say fantastic work you guys do. I can't believe i finally found a road racing modeling website. I started mine this past week. The kit is pretty good I thought. Only a few complaints. The rear engine cowl WAS warped, but not that bad, all i did to fix it was heat up the mid section and bend it upwards. Decals (Altough the CF decals included are kinda useless) and molding (ecspecially the body) all seemed above the average Revell kit. Tires can look good with some modifying. I'll post it when compleated.

Nope, mine's warped too.
Not irreparably warped, tho. Hot water will do the trick.
On the whole it seems it will be enjoyably. Nice rims and tired for once.

Hey,
First post here :D
i just got Revells R10 today :P
anyway i noticed there are decals for the grey top surfaces of the car.
I was wondering what Tamiya aerosol colour would be best for it? i don't fancy putting decals over those vents... :uhoh:
oh and sorry for the epic bumpage here :iceslolan

I just got mine as well. It looks like one of the XF acrylic grays might have to do, maybe medium or light gray. I haven't had a chance to find out. Not sure what TS color that would be. I just ordered the Studio 27 PE from Stradasports. I was going to get the Dexter PE set as well, but it looks a little trickier and I can't really afford it. It has some things the Studio 27 set doesn't have, such as mesh and louvers, but on the Dexter set they want you to apply the PE side louvers on the car piece by piece! That sounds like a nightmare. Apparently Dexter are coming out with a full 2007 R10 trans kit with decals and resin parts. Maybe I will get that, but once I have everything I may start a WIP on here.

Hello to everyone. This is my first post here as I'm extremely new to this, having just built my first ever kit! I'm about to start on my R10 kit and would really like to do a decent job on it and have been rather inspired by the work that the OP has done.
I have a question about the painting the body work which I'm hoping you can help with. How do you cope with a body that has different coloured sections, e.g. the red sections at the top and the dark grey sections? Do you spray the whole thing in silver fiirst (and compound and wax), then use masking tape and paint the red / grey sections? Can you paint in red over the top of the silver? And if not, how do you paint in such a way that the line between the silver and red sections is crisp?
I've been puzzling over that one :-) Any help would be much appreciated!

Can you paint in red over the top of the silver?
Should be no problem at all. Silver over red instead might be much more difficult.
Spend some money on Tamiya`s masking tape, if you want to have a nice result.

No, definitely not! The paint will flow under tapes like those and you will risk stripping off paint while removing it.
I take this one and i´m quite sure, it´s the same as Tamiya tape:
