I have a 1992 Buick LeSabre Custom with the 3800 V6 engine. I am trying to locate the Coolant Temperature sending unit. I have found the coolant temperature sensor, but I need to know where the sending unit is. I bought a new one but I can't find the old one. I have a Haynes manual but it doesn't show the location. Please help!

Post a picture of it and I'll be able to tell you where it is.

Thanks HotZ28 but that is the Coolant Temperature SENSOR. I need the temperature sending unit. It looks almost the same but it only has one wire.
I can't figure out how to load a picture on here.

OK, sorry about that! The one wire unit is located near the center, rear engine area, rear driver side of intake manifold, mounted in the block.

My 92 does not have the "one wire" thingy in the picture. It has the coolent sensor under the throttle body but that's it near there. (unless I'm mistaken--it's from memory)

Do you have a temp gage on the dash IC?

Well, I am going to stop being stupid and pull out my ESM.....Okay, it appears that I do have a gage, and that it is exactly where hotZ28 posted the pic about the one wire thingy. So I was wrong.
Well, I now just went out to look at my dash and under my hood. Despite what the ESM says, there is no one wire thingy there under my hood and there is no gage on the dash, just a red LED notice thing if the temp gets too high. The same on my wife's 92. She has a Limited and I have a Custom. This is weird because it is in the ESM so one of the two cars should have the gage, but they don't.

The red "idiot" light, is controlled by the ECU when the temp exceeds (250 deg), IIRC. The one wire sensor, is for the IC gage only.

Yes on my 92 custom there was no sensor in where hot's is but there is a plug that screws in to prevent water from coming out the hole where the sensor whould be if so equiped im adding a aftermarket gauge to mine that came with a 1/2 inch fitting but the hole is 1/4 inch so i need to get a adapter and im set again thanks for the help it was right where that one wire sensor would be if equiped with a stock gauge
