2001 Focus Zetec Engine Vibration

I have a 2001 Focus with the Zetec engine that vibrates quite a bit when I first start it up in the morning. It vibrates with the transmission in Park, Nuetral, Reverse, and Drive. The vibration is felt through the exhaust and body stucture of the vehicle. When the vehicle warms up the vibration decreases to an acceptable level. Vehicle has 110,000 miles on it.

Any thoughts on the cause of this vibration?

well, i can tell you what my dealership told me since my car is now making a new kind of vibrating clicking sound-- since the engine is old, it will have a rougher idle and rougher everything else. THey told me that unless i get a newer car or engine, thats just the nature of the beast with the focus.

Doesn't help put you to ease at all does it? The only thing I can suggest is when you feel a change in the vibration (drastic change in feeling or sound i.e. clicking noises) take it in.

this thread s pretty old but for those of you with the same problem change the motor mount on the right side. It sits under the coolant tank.

Problem solved. I replaced the right front motor mount. Vibration gone. Part cost about $50 at NAPA...six bolts and a half hour later the job was done.

Sounds familiar. Those mounts are oil-filled, and will leak down over time. Don't ignore the transmission mount under the air box, or the transverse ("dog-bone") mount on the bottom side, if it rocks too much on take-off...

I also had similar symptoms, but it ended being the serpentine belt. I first tried the jack (with wood block) under the oil pan test to see if the vibration stopped after taking some of the engine weight on the jack. No change in the vibration. Although the existing belt looked good, it had stretched and it was not loading the tensioner. The tensioner made a loud racket at idle, and especially when placed into drive. After pulling away the coolant tank, you could see the tensioner rattling. New belt quieted every thing down.
