The Simpsons Movie

Well I just got back from the midnight showing.
What did I think? I loved it.
When I first heard of the movie I thought it was going to suck. I heard they were bringing back old writers though so I had hope. Going in I just expected to be entertained a little. I was definatly.
At the very beginning the Simpsons are in the movies watching Itchy and Scratchy. Homer gets up and says, "I can't believe we're paying to see something we get on TV for free? Everybody in this theater is a sucker." Funny stuff and this little part isn't even the funniest but I think it gives an idea of what you can expect.
Now I know there are some old school Simpsons fans out there who probably say the show has sucked since sometime around 1997-98. If you're one of those people, I promise you'll like this movie. I know because I love the old school episodes as well. There are plenty of jokes in there that you can tell came from the old writers. Of course there are also jokes you can tell come from the newbies as well. It's a nice mix though that I think can make every fan of every era like the film. Maybe not fall in love with it but I'm sure almost everybody who goes to this thing will get a few good laughs.
Also, what did the PG-13 rating get us? Does Homer say the F word just once? Do we get to see Marge's boobs? What is it?
We see a male character naked from the front and not covered. It's part of a visual joke so I won't ruin it.
A character does something you can't do with four fingers but can only do with five.
Somebody says a word that isn't allowed on network TV. It's not the F word though.
One of the characters is using a bong. If you think you probably know who it is.
Anyway, in grading this movie I'll give it an A-
I've read and it seems most of the negative reviews are people saying this is "too offensive" for the Simpsons with their religious and political jokes.
For the jokes, they take a stab at everything. I will admit though the jokes seemed to be a little more liberal based but I think a hardcore conservative will be entertained and not real offended. Also, they really pushed things, I think, when it came to the jokes. There are several religious, government, environmental, gay, and a couple of racism jokes. Things you expect from a Simpsons episode, but given a huge push. It's almost as if the writers were saying "yeah, it's the movie, so we're going there". Now don't expect Simpsons gone South Park but expect your typical Simpson's jokes trying to get away with a little more.
On a finale note I'd like to add this, the animation, if you care about that sort of thing, was really damn good. Even if you're not a fan of CG mixed in with traditional animation, some of the shots are amazing. The traditional drawings were done really good as well and very clean. This movie won't look like a traditional episode but a traditional episode cleaned up, sharped up, and with much more effort going into each scene.

Thank you for this. I have loved every single Simpson episode that i've seen and i will buy every single DVD that becomes available. I knew it would be one long episode with an interesting plot, kinda like that Family Guy DVD Stewie Griffin: The Untold Story. I think it would be worse if they made a lot of changes or went "extreme" with language and such. Sounds like its mostly your traditional episode from your spoilers. I think its great the old writers chipped in so I already know i'll be entertained. I'll see it in the next few days.

I love the Simpson but haven't watched really since about 99 when I couldn't take anymoe of the nonsensical plots and stupid jokes from new writers. It hasn't been the same since Conan O'Brien stopped writing for them. But I still planned on seeing the movie and your reccommendation has solidified the decision.
I'm hoping I can see the Simpsons and hang out to see Sicko after

I think I might have to watch this...I wasn't planning on watching it because the show has been pretty terrible (IMO) for so long. You're one of many people that have said how good it was though so I think I'll give it a try!

Well 'stang you give me hope. I am one of the original fans who lost interest around '98, and think this movie may suck. I still won't see it until DVD release though. Not a big movie guy.
I do know who do know one of the scenes your referring to.

midnight showing?
27th july?
Does that mean I saw it before you guys in the states?
Anyway, it's not life changing nor is it really something special but it is still a darn good laugh. I think it's good that they didn't try too hard as well, the original show does so many things so well anyway so what's the point?

Saw this last night and I agree with a grade of A-. I've never laughed so hard in a theater ever. I always love when Albert Brooks does a guest voice on the show as he is always funny. And Tom Hanks?

It's a f*cking fantastic movie!! I saw it with my gf on Saturday night.
Very funny, and the CGI really adds a lot to the bigscreen experience.
The only negative aspect of the movie was the PG rating it got in Australia, I would NOT take children to see it - way too many adult themes.

Really? Eveybody has been saying it wasn't too over the top. My mom just called to ask me if her friend should take her neice and nephew to see it. I told her Bart is in the buff, theres kids smoking and drinking, and they probably say "shit"

Yeah, I spose the kids of today shouldn't really be fazed by any of that, but it's really a movie squarely aimed at Adults (I suppose, so is the TV show) and not Children, despite being a cartoon.
Kids aren't really going to get the underlying message of the movie, but could absorb a lot of the negative behaviour (ie. a certain character smoking a bong).

It wasn't too over the top. That's weird it got a PG rating in Australia though. I saw a lot of kids/families in the theater when I saw it. Only real "dirty" word was from Marge, which was a crackup.:grinyes:

It was ok nothing spectacular. Seems like the plot has been done before in prior episodes.

i found it funny but nothing amazing. it was enjoyable and worth the price of the ticket (which was free in my case, a friend of mine had a coupon for two and she brought me along)

Monday afternoon I saw Simpsons and then Bourne. Simpsons was pretty good but my memory of it was obscured by the extreme kickassiveness of the Bourne Ultimatum which I saw directly after. I do remember having some good laughs though
