Front engined or Mid engined?

What do you guys think about this one?? Remember mid-engined cars can be practical too. The NSX feels very calm in the city. Also show an example of a great car that suports your answer. :)

Like for Front you can say Corvette, Mid you can say NSX etc. I was just giving examples. :)

I like both although most of my favorite cars are front engined.

BTW, if you pick a front-mid engined car like the S2000... umm I guess you like both too. :D

I say Front engined first I guess some of my favorite toys are front engined. Like the Skyline GT-R. :)

Mid-Engined, it just sounds more exotic and you can have generally bigger engines back there, well not nessecarily true, you can put as big of engine anywhere you want, but with a Mid engine, it's more out of the way. As for me, Rear-Engined. :D

What is the exact difference between mid and rear engined cars?

It tells where the engine block sits with respect to the axles of the car.
Front - in front of the front axle
Front-mid - in front of the driver, but behind the front axle
Rear-mid - behind the driver, but in front the rear axle
Rear - behind the rear axle

I'll take a mid-rear engine car. Especially RWD which the engine weight helps plant the tires to the ground.

Rear. The engine in the Delorean hung out over the rear axle with the transaxle forward of the engine. In the same way as the Porsche 911 and Renault Alpine.

Deloreans are Raer????? I could have sworn that I saw one with a front-mounted V or I 6???

All Deloreans came from the factory with a PRV (Peugeot, Renault, Volvo) 2.8L V6 hanging out the rear of the (Lotus-designed) backbone chassis.

If someone put an engine up front, they would have had to do TONS of work on it, unless it was tubbed. Which, come to think of it, would have made the car so much better.

id have to go mid or rear. in part becuase its different, in part because you open the trunk and 'look theres an engine there'. id love to see someone take out the backseat of a civic and replace it with an engine. how awesome would that be?

lol Everybody seems to like rear-engined cars too. :) I also think they're pretty bad. But can somebody tell me something? Isn't Porsche the only maker that makes them as of now?

as far as i know, porsche is the only one that is still making a true rear engined car. i dont know of anyone else that has...
if im wrong, lemme know...
but even the cars that are close are still midengined...
and that isnt bad... it depends on the handling you like
also, as far as ive seen, most of the posts ive seen here are people who are a little porsche biased...
not like i wouldnt like one...
but a front engined car w/ rwd and lots of controllable oversteer is nice, but if you get a gt2, it does just that... so it is the best of both...
as long as its rwd or awd, i dont care where you put the motor... as long as it doesnt understeer too much...

Honda Odyssey will beat it in 1/4 mile run then. I can't imagine a 240hp soccermom minivan.

I like the feel of a mid-engine car(low polar moment of inertia). My favorites are the V8 Ferraris and of course the Testarossa....

Mid/Rear engined RWD
The most fun to drive and also the most balanced, and if for example you get a Venturi 300 Atlantique or Porsche Boxster S, then you also have plenty enough cargo space.
I love all types of cars, but remember, the very first true gasoline powered cars like the Curved Dash Olds and the early Daimlers were mid engined!

since the GT-R is a front engine based car. then i would have to chose front. cuase one of the only japanese cars that are MR is the NSX and that thing over steers like crazy, along with a ferrari.

I'm greedy Mid-Rear: :D McLaren F1 LM :D and Front: :D Nissan Skyline R34 GT-R M-Spec :D

I want both so I must like both types of engine configurations.

Actually I'm not picky, if someone gives me a sports car I won't complain about the engine configuration.

best front engine road car= Nissan Skyline R34 V-Spec II
race car= Pennzoil Zexel GT-R (:D IMO:D )

best mid engine road car= Ferrari F40
race car=Ferrari F2002

so it looks like mid engined comfortably wins:sun:

isnt mid engine got better accelaration? because the mid engine puts more weight on the rear driven wheels, which equals more traction
