We all know that Porsche is going to up the displacement of the potent 3.6 liter boxer engine. Before the 997s are released, the current shaped GT3 will be reintroduced with this 3.8 liter engine pushing out 380bhps in March 2003. Porsche will produce a Carrera 4S Cabrio in mid 2003 and release the Turbo Cabrio in early 2004. Now we enter the 997 that will be released in 2004. The car will use the same underpinnings that of the 996 but the exterior will be reminiscent of the 993. Upright wings, round headlamps, restyled bumpers and slimmer doors to recreate the profile of the 993. Bigger wheels, brakes and a widened suspesion will be the other changes. The interior is said to be much like the Cayenne's cockpit. There will be an optional six-speed tiptronic as well. After the 997, the all-new 998 will enter the picture. Not really a dedicated model but two different cars with the same shell with numerous trim models under each version. One will be the traditional rear-engined boxer 2+2 and the second will be a V8 or V10 powered mid-engined two seater. The latter will be the basis of Porsche's next racecar. Also the latter will be badged with a S to distinguish it with the six-cylinder 911s.
