weird noise in front

i have a 1990 civic 4dr sedan with a 1.5, everytime i drive it but only when i take off from a stop or moving in a lower gear i hear a noise like the gears are just barely hitting each other fuck i cant really describ it like the trans axel is out of oil, but i have already checked it and it looks fine so far it just keeps making it and its not the cv's cuz i just replaced those yesterday and it still does it so help please

Mine did something like that when one of the cv joints wasnt fully locked into the car..scary feeling and sound, mostly when decelrating in gear and then later while taking off...just had to pop it back in, but it turned out the clip was gone.

yeah at first i thought it might have something to do with it cuz both my cv's made a little popping noise so i thought they might but after changing them it didnt help the noise and mine does it accelerating and decelerating

Ididnt say they werent..just make sure they are in all the way lol.. It might not be that at all, but I thought my car was falling apart and it just turned out to be halfway out.

so pretty much just take and crawl under the car and then try to push them in is what your saying

yeah..put your hand on the inner joint on each axle and give them a tug and see if you can pull it outta the tranny. I've had the same bloody problem and its such a pain in the ass! Always use a new circlip and make sure the axle is definately locked inside the tranny. Ive read a lot of posts on this same issue and it seems that anyone who replaces their own axles has this problem at some point. That noise you describe definately sounds like thats the problem. Unless it started before the cv replacement in which case you could have a tranny/clutch issue

oh yeah my noise started before i replaced my axels they were not to bad i have done worse but yeah ill check them idk what it would be in the trans though i was trying to figure it out without having to do alot of work

well i checked both cv's and they are all the way in for sure but i did notice that it makes the noise if your at a light with the clutch out and you rev it up you can just barley hear it so idk if that is the clutch its self of like the bearing

heh.. it's actually starting to sound like something is grinding against the pressure plate inside the bellhousing.. first you should try adjusting your clutch, to make sure it's not just the fingers on the pressure plate being bent in too far and contacting the clutch disc.

If that doesn't work, you'll need to pull the transmission and check the throwout bearing, grease the input shaft and bearing, if there is a grease fitting for the bearing, should probably just replace it with a new clutch kit tho... you're going to want to THOROUGHLY inspect the clutch disc, pressure plate, flywheel, and the fork that goes into the transmission to actuate the assembly.


quick fix to this... would be to check the bellhousing to engine block bolts... make sure they're all there, and tighten them as necessary. <(--- this ISN'T going to fix your problem, but it MAY make the clutch work a lil longer before it eventually fails, leaving you on a highway somewhere @ 1am.

The whole job (to replace with stock parts) shouldn't cost you more than about 150 bucks, and shouldn't take you more than 6-8 hours, if you've never done it before.

In return for your investment, as long as you drive the car properly, you'll have a clutch that will last longer than the rest of the car.

like drip zone said that could be it...its a whole different story if it does it while your idling. kudos on the oem clutches. My buddy took my stock d16 with 324,000 on it and we checked the clutch..its definately the original, but the bastard was too cheap to replace it before we slapped it in his dx. that thing has been chattering away for two years, clutch slipping and all. Put your ear under the hood and try to trace the noise. If its coming from the tranny area its either a pilot bearing, or throwout bearing
