ok men..............got a 95 mitsu eclipse with only 30,000 miles on it.........very mint condition. decided to start modding it........got a greddy blow off valve rs with hard pipes and a blitz air filter.........got it all on, started the car and it runs like CRAP misses after you start it up and let it idle and when you get on it.... the car bogs and shutters a bit. never had a miss in this car or a sputter now it runs awful..............put the stock stuff back on it and its still doing the same thing. i am at a loss i checked for bost leaks (made my own tester) checked all the vaccum hoses.........sprayed the maf sensor with some aresol break cleaner thinking maybe something was on that............i am ready to just die............i called the nearest mitsu dealer which is 2 hour drive from me,,,,,he said it needs re tuned..........and i have to put the stock stuff back on it before they will touch it...........what a night mare.................you guys got any suggestions before i have to start dumping money into this all because i changed my BOV the pipes and the air filter.................good lord ....................i appreciate any input thanks :frown: oh and NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHTS ARE ON NOTHING LIKE THAT

first , when using performance adders no-matter the mod you must make sure the ecu will comply, with that said ,i've read that stock ecu's (on mitsus mostly, especially the evo) dont take kindly to performance mods without the correct ecu settings....
since you have been ignorant ( no disrespect intended) with your tuning you have subjected the ecu to something that it is not used to,and in turn it will run unsatisfyingly... in lamens terms, it doesnt know wat to do with the mods so it runs like shit .... with the absence of check eng. lights or warnings i am somewhat baffled , which drives me to believe that maybe it was a poor installation... may need more details(and for damage control in the future im not an expert,im just inferring with wat i believe)

That actually sounds like you had a massive vacum leak when you had the performance parts on. Mods like that should in no way affect your car like you described. I would put them back on and make sure you have all of the vacume hoses pluged in correctly. Also, did you get the recirculation kit for the BOV, if not than that could be what likely is causing the problems. Don't take it to the dealer, if you have everything hooked up right it should run fine. Oh and also make sure that you plugged the MAF sensor plug back in, lots of people forget to hook that back up and the same thing happens to them.

dude you have no idea what you're talking about. (no disrespect intented)
the parts he changed have NOTHING to do with the ecu and there should be NO problem at all when you switch those parts with the stock ECU. I know cause I did those and more. with no problems.

are you still recirculating your BOV sounds to me like what happens when people vent to atmosphere.

:werd: Ya know this same thing happened to me, barely running etc. So I started looking around and what do ya know, but I hadnt even put my recirculation tube on the BOV! Put that snatch on and she worked like a charm.

You know what else just dawned on me... did you put the airfilter on your MAF (that big black box looking thing that came right after the stock filter) back on? If so, did you make sure to replug it into the harness. Check those two things and let us know whats happening.

ok yes we are recirculating the bov we have checked every vaccum hose there is................we are not using the stock air filter compartment you have mentioned we put a blitz airfilter on it so the only thing we changed from stock to after market is we put the greddy rs bov, with greddy hard pipes and the blitz air filter.........thats it yes our maf is plugged in, no there are no check engine lights on...........the car idles fine on a cold start for 3 min then it starts to miss slightly,,,,,then when we go to back out of our drive way it almost wants to stall, then when we go to get on it between thrid fourth and fifth it shutters a bit instead of going right up in to the red on the rpms like it used to............we are totally stumped and im sure you guys are too........however there is no way in hell we did this wrong you would have to be a imbisole to not be able to install a bov with pipes and a airfilter......................but without a check engine light we cant tell anyone what any codes are or etc. i soooooo dont want to put the stock stuff back on and drive this thing 2 hours to the nearest mitzu dealership just to have them tune this if it doesnt need it................so come on guys..........put your thinking caps on me and mr burgrat know you can do it ahahhahahah keep the suggestions coming..................................:banghead:

ok so you have tried replacing everything you did and it still ran the same right? well I would say swap out your plugs cause the miss could definitely be something stupid like that. But it doesn't explain why it started when you modded your car. boost leak is always the number 1 suspect when you do something like that a boost leak test is always helpful maybe you should do that too.

we did do a boost leak test and found nothing just a little air coming out of the hose that runs from the valve cover to the recirculation tube and found tha one small hose that also goes on the recirculation tube was off just a bit but other than that.................weve checked and checked and found nothing

Yeah, def change the spark plugs. I would almost bet my left foot that that is your problem. Buy the NGK BPR7ES plugs gapped at 28-31. They are cheap and you can get them at most any autoparts store. I bet that will solve your problem. Let us know if this works or not. Also make sure all of your plug wires are pushed on all the way.

OMG ECLIPSE98GST YOU MAY KEEP YOUR LEFT FOOT BUDDY!!!!! YOU WERE ABSOLUTELY RIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OMG all this time and it was the spark plugs........well we feel it was the wire as well cuz it had some major cracks in it and we think it was sparking outside the wire. But you guys have no idea how happy we are to have this fixed!!!!!!!!!!!!!! what a relief! :grinno:
i gots my baby back!!!!!!

Glad I could help, it always seems to be the small things that get overlooked.

Glad it's fixed, but just to clear something up, there is nothing a Mitsu dealer can do to "retune" anything. I have no idea what they meant by that, except that they were most likely talking big and blowing smoke to get in your wallet.
