Hey all. Thought I would begin sharing some of my pics with y'all. This is the Tamiya 1:24th Ferrari F50 in mid-conversion to the doomed F50 GT1. Enjoy!
http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/484351Dscn1811.jpg
Modified and stock door panels. The modified still needs some work.
http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/543878Dscn1821.jpg
Dash modified using the decal from a spare Tamiya 1:24 Nissan R390 and a scratched flat panel dash insert.
http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/682132Dscn1826.jpg
Interior using 2 "black boxes" and the battery box from the PIAA Accord kit, Magneti Marelli decal from the Tamiya 1:20 Ferrari F189, shifter, shifter surround and seat/seat belt decal from the R390. wiring detail added with more coming. and last but not least, sheet styrene to simluate the black box & battery mounting plate.
http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/471324Dscn1831.jpg
Front end treatment is sheet styrene for the splitter, sheet styrene (Evergreen) strips for the base of the fender extensions and built up with 3M Automotive Piranha Putty.
http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/608784Dscn1839.jpg
New engine cover from sheet styrene.
http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/465778Dscn1846.jpg
Upper engine scoop was created in Sculpty first and then "heat and smash" formed in sheet styrene. I'm still working on the shape and fairing the scoop into the greenhouse.
http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/859944Dscn1857.jpg
Cockpit temporarily installed.
http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/908928Dscn1858.jpg
Stock wheels temporarily installed (I have yet to find the correct 5 spoke Speedlines I need).
http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/792379Dscn1863.jpg
Damn shame Maranello couldn't keep up with Mercedes Benz's spending. This would have been awesome to see running down Mulsanne!
More when I get more done ;-)
Thanks for looking,
Bill

Ales, here's 3 more pics of the engine cover/greenhouse area.
http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/830892Dscn1873.jpg
Refueling opening have been drilled and the fuel inlet doors scratched from thin sheet styrene.
http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/138734Dscn1874.jpg
I had to adjust the length of the twin NACA scoops and made a chisel (snapped off everything that didn't look like a chisel on a #11 blade) to create the top engine cover hinge indentions.
http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/530262Dscn1887.jpg
Just finished recreating the front lip of the engine scoop (and the scoops silhouette). The copper colored piece on the leading edge is a piece of wire, bent to the correct curvature and super glued to the lip. The yellowish/clear strip on the rear fender tops is 5 Minute Epoxy plugs created by simply sanding off the OEM rear wing supports, covering with celophane (Scotch Brand) tape and filling the hole up from the inside with the epoxy.
Thanks for all the great comments. Praise from Cesar is always welcomed ;-)>

Hey, even Pman has missed a thing or two so thanks for mentioning it.
Which part?
The profile of the front splitter? Yep. It needs to more closely follow the silhouette of the front end (more curvature).
The air extractors? Yep. They need to be deeper and cut into the "V" of the front suspension cover.
The grill opening? Yep. It needs to be expaned in the horizontal plane with a lower opening and a horizontal splitter plate.
Only one brake duct? Yep. I have yet to open up the other one.
The splitter to body fairing? Yep. It needs to be molded to the body.
If you are relating to something else, please let me know!
The thing about the F50 GT1 is that this car was originally made by Ferrari, never raced and then sold (I believe it's in N.A. currently) and changes have been made by each subsequent owner. The current owner actually drives the car at the track. So on top of recreating a car that never actually competed, I'm also trying to decide what period of it's life to depict! It's enough to drive you crazy ;-)>
Thanks,
Bill

I have the Scale Production F50GT1 resin transkit which is nice. He overlooked the same detail that you did, or at least from your recent picture. The black beltline is suppose to continue through the front fender flare. You are doing a great job so far on an awesome car!:)

This is the Scale Production transkit in it's out of the box form. A decent kit made for the Tamiya F50. The rear engine cover has to be cut open, if one so chooses. Museum Collection made one also(for Tamiya F50) with engine cover seperate and probably a better transkit all around, both are sold out unfortunately. Maybe they will be reissued someday.

Thanks for those pics. I saw the Museum Collection one a short while back but i was completely unaware that there was this version too. Looks like a well produced kit, I wonder if they were both limited runs so as not to get into any problems with licensing laws etc. I was once told that it is fine to produce no more than 250 pieces.

Latest text only update (WAY too much work here lately for me to model, but...)
Just got the front bonnet cover's NACA duct made and am still reworking the front fender flares and shape and width of the GT1's front splitter. Opened up the passenger side front air brake-duct and am currently in the processes of revising the driver side to a more correct shape.
Having a devil-of-a-time with the rear splitter WRT to getting the correct shape created.
My F50-GT1 is still in it's infancy so any missing/incorrect details will hopefully (...;-)>...) be hashed out long before the last coat of primer goes on (I have a fair amount of reference material on this one), but I'll still post a final set of pics of her before that final coat of primer so everyone can help me make sure its all correct ;-)>
Teamwork rules!
Thanks again guys,
Bill
:bandit:
Veyron - Thanks for the pics. I'd forgotten that Micheal Graeber (of SP) had done one. I need to contact him and see if I can buy a set of wheels and the rear wing off him. I've heard the MC's version was pretty bad. IIRC, Quarterman's MMRN article build copy was sent to Japan and used by them for the castings (which they really messed up on...or so Michael says.)

Museum Collection is supposed to be reissuing the F50 GT some time soon. It was originally planned by the end of last year, but other work pushed off the schedule. When it comes to reissuing a resin kit, everything except the master parts has to be made again, so it takes some time.
I missed the last release, but this time, I won't.
