Power Windows

I have a 94 Transport and for the last few weeks the power windows stopped working intermittently. I would start the car and the windows wouldn't work. I am not sure whether the opening and closing of the door or the starting and stopping of the engine was the difference but they would begin working again.

Yesterday they quit altogether. I live in a small town and I took it to local auto shop today. The mechanic told me that the fuses and relays are good. If he brings a "hot wire" from the battery to the window controller the windows will work. He does not know what the problem is.

What is stopping the power from getting to the window switch?

THere have been several reports of power windows wires breaking in the door to pillar location..these wires are continualy bent each time the door moves....so I'd suggest you run a separate wire from the fuse box or some other convenient location --depending if you wish to have the windows live all the time or only at KEY ON - ...I have them ON all the time...no time loss for the keys when it starts raining....

Thanx for the suggestion. So you just added a wire from fuse panel to the window switch? That is going to be bent constantly also isn't it?

Just for giggles last night I took a look at the plunger switch that turns off the dome lights when the door closes. I gave the plunger a few turns and the windows began working again. Does this have something to do with circuit or coincedence?

Of course they stopped working tonight and turning the plunger doesn't seem to be working?

Whatever the exact location of the lost contact, it seems to be very close to make or break...so may be any vibration could pass it from one state to the other....and of course, any new wire to the main switch will also bent...give it a ten year life probability....but consider the possibility that the main window switch itself can be the culprit, a common occurrence.

BTW, my '93 still works normally...but as told befoere, I have switched the feed from the original breaker to the one next to it that is ON at all times...this is in the convenience center under glove box.

Does anyone know if the 1994 Transport was set up so that the windows would not work when the door was open. Seems that te windows do not operate unless plunger that turns off dome light is depressed.

Was this intenional and is this the ground switch for my windows?
