Help with sub plans......

Hey guys I have a 96 Saturn SW1 and was wantin to know what y'all thought about havin some kind of a box built. But before we get into that i'm kinda havin trouble figuring what I'm gonna go with. I know that I have to have 6.5" components in the front and then in the rear tailgate I'll just put in some 6.5" coaxial and that should still sound good right? OK then.... Circuit City has the Kicker RS65.2 components. But I was thinking maybe the Polk DB components because I love POLK AUDIO all the way. I'll also get the same size (components if I have to) for the tailgate. Now.....for the custom box blueprints....I wanna build a box for my cargo area to be flush with the tops of the back seat as long as from panel to panel in the back flush up against the back seats and I want just wide enough that it stops right when my panels start to curve downward. Does that make sense? The box dimensions are 36" W x 17 1/2" H x 8" D. Now sticking with the Polk tradition I'd like to stick with Polk Audio DB 6.5" components (for now) up front and Polk Audio DB 6.5" coaxials (for now) but with that limited space of depth I dont know what kinda sub to pair my speakers with. I've thought about either 1 SR124-DVC or 2 Kicker L5 12"s in a Kicker box (http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Specifications-of-Kicker-Dual-SoloBaric-12-Subwoofers-in-Vented-Enclosure-06DS12L52/sem/rpsm/oid/148340/rpem/ccd/productDetailSpecification.do#tabs) or just one Kicker L7 10" (http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Kicker-10-Solo-Baric-Subwoofer-06S10L72/sem/rpsm/oid/157767/catOid/-13646/rpem/ccd/productDetail.do) in a custom built box for the specs of my hatch area or just say to hell with what and get the db212-2 (http://www.polkaudio.com/caraudio/products/db212/) in the custom Polk box? What do y'all think a man in my situation should do? And say if I would go with just like 1 Polk SR sub and Polk components, how do Polk amps perform? I've honestly never heard anything about them. Would a C400.4 be really good for my components? I like my Metal really powerful and really loud. LOL But then if I would end up gettin 2 subs would one C500.1 be enough or would I get 2 C500.1's for the subs?

Also I was looking and comparing and I can demo these speakers and I still will but I wanna know what y'all think. What y'all say always impacts what I read about and go demo for myself. So, with that said what about (for now) either Polk Audio db65101 and db651S I can demo them at Circuit City or Rockford Fosgate P162S or P163C I can demo them at Best Buy or Alpine Type R SPR-17S or SPR-17C I can also demo them at Best Buy. Now again note that whatever I do decide to settle with I'd like to keep the amps and subs same too. Now I dont know much about Polk amps but I do know from experience that Alpine and Rockford Fosgate make pound for pound hellacious amps. Also do y'all think you can help me out and give me some names of some other 6.5" components with the 6.5" coaxials to match also? Just to be able to keep my mind open about things.

rear speakers are not that important for sound quality (in fact they often diminish unless you have a 5.1 type setup). A single 12 or 15 in the right enclosure can easily overpower a set of components upfront. Polks are middle of the road, the mid/tweet speakers make the biggest difference in sound quality so they should be a good bit of the price tag for an SQ system.

So what are you suggesting Paul? I dont think I fully understand what you're saying. I get that not have any speakers at all in the tail gate? But then I dont understand what you said about 1 12" or 15" being too powerful for 1 set of components up front? So what do you suggest I do then?

i say drop the polk (there ok but not all that) get a set of either cadence, pioneer or digital design comps dpending on your budget and the kicker subs with a nice kicker amp 1 15 sub though it prob be louder then 2 12's

I am saying you don't need like 4 15" subs with 4,000 watts of power, one 12 or 15 is plenty

Go with the polks, the polks have better sound quality over the kickers. The square deisgn of the L series sub allows the sub to distort at lower volumes more easily than your standard round sub. If you want pure bass then go with the kicker. Also use ebay for all mainstream car audio, you will pay so much more less than at a retail store or most other online stores.
As for an amp you can either go with 2 seperate amps one mono and one 2 channel. Or you can get a 4 channel amp and run the speakers off 2 channels and bridge the other 2 for the sub. YOU DONT HAVE TO RUN THE SUB AT FULL RMS. You can run the sub at even less than half the wattage and not have a problem. You get a problem when you start clipping the amp.
And like paul said a single sub can over power a set of comps with no problems. And depending on what you listen to one 12" sub should be enough.

You could probably just get a 10" sub and be all right. I wouldn't recommend Kicker for you. You're gonna want sound quality from your sub. Plus, I just got an Alpine Type-R and sound quality is excellent. Highly recommended if you can handle not having all Polk audio products.

4 15's with about 12,000 watts sounds good...lol
like everyone else has said you don't need overkill or anything a single twelve in a 3cube ported box tuned to about 32 hz with about 600 watts should sound good
and as far as components polk isn't all that great or i don't think so, Autotek would be something to look into

I have a set of RE-RE 6.5's but they dont produce a great amount of midbass even with the eq set. I was looking into more of an add on.
I have to check with my guy too, hes getting me an sx 18 for 300 shipped.

See I've thought I've having the component Alpine Type-R's up front and the coaxial in the back. And having the PDX 4 channel amp running that. What could I do for the Type-R sub? I would a box that goes across my whole back area, but flush up against the back seats, and about 8" deep. Can I still get a sub in a box and have the proper air space out of a 8" deep box?

Depends on the height an width of the enclosure.

Well the specs on the box I'd like to be able to build is:
W-36"
H-17.5"
D-8"
What do y'all think I should do for a sub enclosure? Can this box I want be good enough for 8" of depth? Hey also, I just looked up the specs for the Alpine Type-R 12" 2ohm subwoofer. It says it has a mounting depth of 7.7". Does this mean it has to have 7.7" to sound like what it's supposed to sound like? And also I looked up the Rockford Fosgate T112D2 and it says it mounting depth of 6.625" what do these mean?

I found a picture of what the back of my Saturn looks like. It's not that great of a picture but you can tell where I'm just wanting to my box to 8" deep. Just click on the link
