Under Construction - Porsche Carrera GT

Hi Guys,

Here is my version of a Carrera GT. I decided to paint it some different color than others do. I painted the kit Duplicolor's Golden Bronze. I planned to paint the interior box stock. But now I stuck with the project as I'm not sure if I like this color myself or not. Can you guys hit me back with your opinion? I'm open to everything now... (It's not cleared/polished yet as I might gonna rip the paint and do all over again...)

So guys, what do you think about a golden bronze Carrera GT?

Really the only opinion that matters is your own.

But since you asked, it's not working for me. Gold is one of those colors that almost never looks particularly good on cars (kinda like brown). On just the right body it can be OK, but I don't think the CGT is it. Especially not with chromed wheels.

If you're not liking it now, I don't know that it will grow on you as you build.

If you like it keep it. Maybe it'll come out decent with gunmetal wheels.
Just give it a try - you can always strip it ;)

[EDIT]Before you paint the rims try it in photoshop - saves you the hassle of stripping ;)

Mmm...:screwy: I think that if you're asking the question it's because you doubt liking the color... (humm oj you even admited that yourself...)

So I think you don't like it and need confirmation.

My opinion is close to MPWR's one, and in fact, I really find that ugly (sorry :frown: ), it makes me think to some bad cheap toys painted gold to have an original color... Gold really don't match model cars on my opinion. Especially super cars such as this Porsche Carrera GT :disappoin

With some dark or black wheels it could be a good scheme

You could keep the gold base and spray a candy color over it.
Candy red would looks great!

Since you asked: I don't really like the gold. I do like the idea patoffspider has though, candy red and orange looks great over gold!

Its a new color for that type of car, Um i like it but then i dont. Maybe if you go for a "Top Secret" style color scheme. Add some golden wheels with a chrome lip and add a little carbon here and there and you could have a decent car.

Erm...notta so much:( Maybe a little darker. If it was actually bronze. If not, you can still make it candy apple red:)

it might look sick with gloss black wheels and a black/gold theme

Now we know what Goldfinger would drive if they made an updated movie for 2007. :eek:

Personally, I'm not feeling the gold.

I kinda like the gold, its something different, but definitely needs some dark wheels on it, a gun metal or a bronze would look sweet. I also agree with adding some carbon fibre.

I like the color. I've been trying to come up with a good gold tone for a Ferrari 360 project.
I'm thinking a copper/silver mix might do the trick.

I decided to give a shot for another color. My wife asked me to use a light tone,
so I tried pearl white. It's just painted, and I still need to know what you all think.
I like it, but does it need bit darker rims instead of the chrome ones?

White is a good color, but definitly change the chrome.

Gun Metal rims would look nice, but I would do a flat black on them. Make the calipers bright yellow or even bright red!!! Damn I want to build my GT more and more. On another note, I like this color better than the gold. It was not really working with such an exotic car.

Give some weight to what is said here, but do what YOU like.

That being said: the white looks great. :grinyes: I think any car looks good in white, though. I'm also digging the chrome rims, but it would look great with gloss black or a light gunmetal as well. If you do a darker color, make the wheel nuts a lighter color (aren't they a gold/bronze color on the 1:1?).

That was a fast strip/re-paint job! You must be efficient! keep up the good work!

White is certainly less original but on my opinion far better than gold !
White model cars always make feel something special... :grinyes:
perhaps the beauty of simplicity :thumbsup:

I would advice you dark rims, something like gun metal, too. Nothing shiny. :)

As for the color, I decided to go on with white on the exterior, the interior is going to be stock one (TBH I already painted the black and brown parts). Finally I found a reference pic about a white CGT with dark rims. It is called the Gemballa Mirage GT and definitely looks hot with dark rims, bright yellow brake calipers (ENZOENVY1, you are right! :grinyes: ). I'm not gonna build the tuned one as on the pic, I let the glory to anybody else! As for the wheel nuts JMWALLAC, it seems rubyred/silver looks good on black rims! :lol:

White is good for the CGT. Infact I was watching TopGear old series. I think it was 2006 ones. They even say that White and seems to be the in colour for supercars now. It looks good on Porsches, Ferraries, Lotus and many more. I think I might go on trying for white for my future models with a little touch of pearl effect.

Yes, I think you are right, I also have seen a couple new cars introduced in white nowadays, such as the 911 Turbo, Lambo (Hamann tuded or the Gallardo Spyder), Audi, Merdedes, Lexus, so I think it's kind of a new wave now...

I like it white! Very hot with black rims! :) Did you use the tamiya paint (pearl white or white and then pearl clear)?

Maybe with some dark colored wheels the bronze will look better, but as it sits right now I'm not diggin it.

Thanks! No, I used Duplicolor white and then cleared it with Duplicolor clear! Polished and waxed at the end.

Finally the CGT is done, I put more pics in the Completed Gallery. Thanks for everyone following this WIP and for those who encouraged me with this white one!
