Modeling Injuries...

Well, i just cut my thumb with a razor extremely bad today. Im typing this with one hand because i have ice on my thumb and it is being held up. I was cutting toward my thumb with an EXCESSIVE amount of pressure and my smart little mind was saying "your gonna cut yourself, your gonna cut yourself." So i ignored the little vpices in my head ands continued on humming my song while still, pushing this excessive amount of pressure toward my thumb. Syre enough, there went the small piece of plastic between my thumb and the razor and in the blink of an eye my thumb was blleding everywhere. I am such a dumbass. So, have any of you experianced sumb dumbness-caused modelling injuries?

I believe there was another thread about this subject some time ago. Gotta do a search for it.

Ah, we don't want an old thread that we have to search through pages of stuff, and there has been a lot of new people that have joined in the past couple of months.
Anyways, I cut myself with my dremel ALL the time, you'd think I'd learn someday
and I slice myself with my knife occasionally.

...When I cut myself I went into shock pretty quick. The first idea that came to mind was to put the wound under hot water. This was the wrong answer, as I bled a lot more for it. :o Cold water works much better. My girlfriend was on her way over anyway, and she got to the door right after it happened, so she took me down to the doctor's office. By the time we got there I had a wad of toilet paper the size of my fist soaked clear through with blood. They cleaned it up, and I didn't get stitches, just those butterfly strips. Still got a decent scar though! :D

Tried to catch an Xacto knife that had slipped out of my hand, bobbled it up into the air and ended up plunging it into my chest. Lucky for me the #11 blade was new. Very little blood and a nice clean scar. Freaked the wife out though when she saw just the handle of the knife sticking out of my chest. Cut a nice clean hole in my shirt too! Modeling is an extreme sport! LOL

I was cutting something with a rounded blade exacto knife, brand new, it slipped and sliced the middle joint of my left middle finger, basically took the whole piece of skin off and it sliced the bone too. Hurt like heck. Later, I was cutting another thing with a sharp fold out knife and it slipped and I cut right in between the middle on bottom join closest to the finger, right on that same finger. Ended up getting stiches and it severed the nerve so now my finger is numb 24/7..hehe

First off let me say OUCH!!! :crying:
Second let me say you should NOT have been cutting toward your thumb! What were you thinking???? Always cut AWAY from any body parts!
Please get a good bandaid on it and forget about modeling for a couple of days and heal up! :frog:

I have a scar on my index finger, and as I grow, it grows too!!!

I was cutting something on my ITR (can't remember what now :bloated: ) but I slipped and put my exacto straight into my finger. I didn't realise at first, and just went on working. As soon as I saw the body painting itself red, I saw it, and how it hurt!!!! So I went into the bathroom, cleaned it up under warm water, made it bleed more (i know what you mean, Jay :D ). eventually it stopped bleeding, so I just went on with cutting up the ITR

I have many more tales of pain...but I'll save them for another day ;) .

I am yet to cut myself with my dremel though...*touches wood as well*... don't wanna temp fate

Have a few battle scares...mostly due to my own stupid fault.
All have been from sticking a knife in thumbs or fingers or one time when i superglued a part to my fingers....took me ages to get off.
Lost a bit of skin over that one !!!... :bloated: :bloated:

LOL! :lol2: It would have been a shocking when it happened, but it does sound like it would have been damn funny afterwards!
Catching a knife in your chest!

I have plenty of scares and marks on all my figers and thumbs from Models, Iv even sliced my thumb open on the edge of a plastic wing.

But they are nothing compared to the injuries you can sustain from working on real cars.

A tip to those that cut themselves a lot... Super Glue (Cyanoacrylate). Glue the wound cut, end of problems! CA was actualy invented in the US during Vietnam for doing field sutures, which is why it sticks to you better than the model you are building;)

You know that sounds like an urban legend to me. I never heard of such a thing about super glue being made for Vietnam field sutures. I don't even think super glue was even made till the late 70's.

Ooohhh goodie goodie! A stupidity forum, I'll be good at this! Chopped a half centimetre thick slice of skin/flesh off my left thumb, next day accidently pored salt into it when it was bleeding, I dont go to hospitals I just use a bandaid! I always have the knife pointing towards my body parts when I cut stuff up and I always cut MYSELF up, my dad comes in alll the time and says dont hold the knife towards yourself, but I find it impossible to cut otherwise. I havecuts and slices all over my fingers everyday because of my stupidity. But its fun! Worst i've done though is I cut half of my right index fingers nail off and cut into the blood veins and there was blood everywhere, lucky its grown back now. But I will always slice myself on things, its just me
