So between the na and the turbo motor (ej series) for the impreza what exactly is the differences between the turbo and non turbo setup? Just out of curiosity can one just take a turbo manifold and swap it over to one of the non turbo motors(not looking at compression)? Are the turbo motors built differently? stronger rods pistons crank cam(s) ect. what is the difference between these blocks? i personally am not finding anything via internet.

I know for as far as some cars go the bp mazda motor non turbo can do this no worries as well as the volvo motors(all of them) so my question is valid and comes fro this knowledge. I just seem to be stuck. please help.

Turbo engines are built different - think about it.

ok, your a mod, so please don't be that way. it really is not that helpful. all i want to know is if the manifolds (intake and exhaust) from the turbo bolt to any of the na motors.

The EJ series from 1.5 up to 2.5 liters, turbo and non-turbo have had countless minor revisions that I have no hope of relating here. That said, major assemblies like intake manifolds, heads, headers, other ancillary bits will bolt up. Some fit better than others. For example, a turbo header will not clear the motor support crossmember that the N/A motors use, and vice versa.

Mind your compression; match your ECU to your heads, and go easy on the boost. Build yourself a frankenstein motor.

Thank you that is what i was looking for, your help is much appreciated

I was actually think of a 2.5 liter from 99 with a turbo setup. as far as the ecu goes what are you guys useing for tuning? (btw i am used to making Frankenstein motors  i come from the gm world of fieros) I now just have to figure out what will be the best as you called it Frankenstein motor. as far as what intake flows the best heads and turbo headers ect. plus i would prefer to get into a obd1 computer IF (you wouldn't happen to know if they do would ya?) these have eprom chips to burn. if so i will just tune it that way. cheap.

btw as far as second gear goes in these i heard from scott putnum that in their car they use a "dog box" according to him these run like 10 grand is there another option for the backyard kind of guy (i mean other than double clutching or not beating on it- i plan this to be a drag car so, i can't have stuff break on me or at least i would prefer it not to)
