Distributor VS Check Engine Light???

As mentionned in a previous thread - I own a 2002 Astro AWD and my check engine light came on. Got a code reader and came up with P1345 => cam sensor / crank sensor correlation. My local GM dealer told me that it was probably a faulty cam sensor, so I replaced it. Erased the code and it came right back. Now, since I was ticked off at my local GM dealer, I stopped at another dealer to get a second opinion, this time the service manager told me that they see this problem often and that I need to grind the distributor clamp so I can move the distributor as if I were changing the timing. He says that if the computer reads that the timing advance changes by + or - 9 degrees the computer reads an error and sends a code. He says that after grinding the inside of the horseshoe clamp I need to erase the code and turn my distributor slightly, reclamp it and see if the code comes back. If it does come back to keep playing slightly with the distributor until the code doesn't come back.

My van is running great other than the check engine light coming on. Same fuel economy, starts on 1/4 turn like any GM should, great accelaration. Has anyone heard of this technique of fixing my issue or is this guy just as full of it as the other dealer that sold me a cam sensor to replace my good sensor?

grinding the clamp and moving the distributor is just compensating for bearing wear in the distributor shaft. you might as well replace it with a remanufactured for about $70 or an aftermarket upgrade for $170.

Any suggestions as to where the best place to get a replacement would be? I don't want to put a used distributor in and have the same problem in a couple of months.
