Hey What's going on people? Just wanted to say that I bought my fist civic yasterday. Like it says above, it's a '95 EX Coupe. The car is in pretty good shape, however when I'm backing up there is a very loud moan/whine noise. It only happens when reversing though, so I don't really know what to make of it. Does anyone have any thoughts or ideas? Any help would be really appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I've had that happen a few times on my civic, the first time I took it to Les Schwab and they took my wheels off and a little rock fell out. The second time they had to look and ended up digging a little rock out and the third time I did it myself. I don't know if it's the same problem you're having, but that's what happens to my car.

i am assuming your civic is a standard. idk how loud very loud is. i know that the reverse gear normally makes a whinning sound when you reverse fast. the faster you go the louder it gets

what kind of car did you have before ? a standard ?

Ant tranny will make more noise in reverse than drive, but if its loud it could be a rock in the backing plate like the other guy said...

Yes my car is a standard. I've driven nothing but standards. My last car was an '89 Prelude. I know the sound that the car makes when everything is ok. The sound I'm talking about is VERY loud and sounds alot like Chewbacca's groaning. I've been working around cars for quite sometime, and I haven't heard a noise like this before. Kicker1_solo: I'll try to see if taking of my wheel is any way to fix it. Are there any other suggestions? Thanks for the info so far.

Well Good news Everybody. I was replacing my brakes pads up front this afternoon, because I figured that they should be replaced anyways because there's no telling when they were replaced last. I couldn't believe how worn down they were. I took off the back pad and saw that the bad was worn so badly that the sensor had begun to wear down. I put everything back together and now, no more noise, other than the noise that is supposed to be there. I assume that with the wheel/rotor rotating backwards it caused the sensor to "sing" differently than normal. So I replaced my brakes and fixed my noise. Thanks for any info you guys had.

That's good to hear. I had to replace my girlfriend's brake pads about 3 weeks ago. It made that same noise too. The reason why I didn't think it was that is because it made it all the time in every gear, not just in reverse. But I'm glad that you got it fixed. :)

All cars make that remote control car noise when going in reverse at least the new cars do.
